Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
Watching a currently running anime series, I've start having a freeze near the end of both of these eps right when the ending song kick in (you must watch few secs before it happens in order to trigger the freeze), it's only the vid that freezes not the sound.
https://nyaa.si/download/1848363.torrent
https://nyaa.si/download/1851587.torrent
It's only in this specific series that freeze MPC for me during the ending song,
It doesn't seem to have any special effects in the subtitles as far as I know so I don't know what taking a load on the player,
I had some random randering error appearing once during the freeze but I didn't had time to read it and it didn't appeared again since, but the freezing still happens,
I assume it's something very specific that is done on this videos but Idk what, nor know if it's something on my settings but I can confirm I don't have it on any other video and I'm watching a lot of stuff,
Is there any way to fix it (my settings shouldn't be that far from default too iirc) ?

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
At which timestamp for the first episode? 22:30?
I am not getting any freeze or crash here.
Test if turning of subtitles (press W) makes any difference.

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
For timestamp it be hard to tell cause in each ep it's different, I will say at least 10s or 20s before the screen turn black and the episode name shows up and the ending song starts,
I've actually suspected the subs but forgot to mentioned it, and you probably hit the jackpot, when the subs are Off it not freeze,
Same if the subs are On but the video isn't in full screen, so I think I can narrow it down to the maximum texture res for the subs,
Some years back when I've got a second monitor I had to change in the subtitle settings the maximum texture res from desktop (or whatever it was before) to my main monitor res,
Now I've got 3 monitors and main monitor is 2K so I had to put there 1440p,
I don't exactly recall anymore why I had to change it there in the first place, but it had something to do with the the vid slow down or seek time taking too much since the player can't detect the sub res after the user got more than one monitor or something, so I had to tell it the exact res I'm using,
How do I stop it from freeze if that's the case though?
I've got that 2k monitor for some months now and only that specific series gave me that issue so far.

Does the libass option have any effect?
options > subtitles > default style
What is the exact resolution of your screen?
Does it also happen if you watch on different monitor that has different resolution?

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
Using default style for sub still triggers it,
From a quick cheack it doesn't seem to happen in any of my other monitors (which are 1080p and 1200p),
It happens on my 1440p monitor,
The res of that monitor is 2560x1440

To be clear libass is an option in right-bottom corner of this settings page:
options > subtitles > default style
options > subtitles > default style
Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
I have reproduced the problem.
Fixing will not be easy.

Use libass or lower texture resolution to 1080p.
Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
If by libass you're referring to default style, it didn't helped one bit,
It's the res as you suggested,
Do I have to change the rest though? ;o
Or the fix is doable but will take a while,
So far only that show does that to me so I don't mind wait even years as long as hopfully there will be fix at some point.
Btw what is the direct issue that cause the problem?

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
I am referring to libass checkbox on the "Default style" options page, not the "Default style" option itself that is located in play subtitle menu.
The problematic subtitle line with the episode title uses an animated blurring effect. That has big performance impact when rendering, and is worse the higher the resolution gets.

I see,
Libass even ganna work when the Default style subs are off though?
And how it will change the subs overall?
I'm less of a fan about changing the visual way the subs came with,
Even more after this thread
And I assume there's a good reason Libass is off by default no?

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
Libass is enabled by default in the pack and does not affect he way subtitles are displayed.
Default style should be disabled by default.
The problem is fixed in 18.4.9

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
Seems like it was fixed, thx!
Can I ask here some other quick question that is not related to the current issue, or I rather open another thread for it?

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
Alright thx,
I was wondering if by installing K-lite Mega or Full I could make MPC to run SWF formats again,
Or if it had to be done by having the right files in the OS?
I've got flash installed but since MS removed IE from win10/11 flash and showaves not really works even on old browsers that supports them,
I know there are ways to run SWF files, but I've used to also be able to open them with MPC at times and was wondering if it's doable or I should give up on the idea?

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
You need to install the Flash ActiveX plugin for IE and patch it.
Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
I've already got flash and even shockwave for IE installed,
Idk about the patching though

Re: Video randering freeze at some point in specific file
Thx, it made it work on 32 bit mpc (which iirc was the only ver flash could work with anyway cause there was no 64x right?)
Thx
