Hi Folks,

i use two wqhd Monitors. (2560x1440)
One with hdr support and one without hdr support.

Now i want to install the K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1830_Mega Pack.
In the Install Steps, the Menu is open for Video renderer.

What are the "BEST" Setup by using wqhd Monitor, but playing 2160p hdr.mkv Files?
a) for playing the .mkv File on the wqhd Monitor without hdr Support?
b) for playing the .mkv File on the wqhd Monitor with hdr Support?

Because with your Experience, you can help me and then i have the Answer, for which Situation, i have to do the best Step.
(okay, i watch the 2160p.mkv File today on Monitor a, then i have to change the Video renderer to...)
(okay, i watch the 2160p.mkv File today on Monitor b, then i have to change the Video renderer to...)

Many Thanks for helping, what Steps to select, for best Video Picture Quality!
(Question: more other Settings to do, not only to Select the right Video renderer?)

Cheers from Germany

Edit: next Step in Install Way: Decoding Method + directshow Appl.
i use newer Gaming pc with newer hardware. (GPU = AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX)
it is correct to select: ???

Decoding Method: LAV Video D3D11VA
Setting for other DirectShow -appl.: Decoding Method: LAV Video D3D11VA

+ it is correct to select also: ???
mpgeg-2 + vc-1 because these two are not select in default
+ mpeg-2 in section ..for other directshow appl.

Use default settings:
MPC Video Renderer
D3D11VA

That works good on both monitors.

Hardware decoding for mpeg-2 and vc-1 is irrelevant.

Hi admin,
thanks!

i found old Thread, sorry.

in that, you wrote: "madvr settings > devices > hdr > tone map HDR using pixel shaders > target peak nits = 100"

that info is old, so now, you recommend, not to use the madvr + not to change hdr peak nits ?

---

your recommend 100% to use these Settings? (look at the three Screenshots please.)

You can use either MPC Video Renderer or Madvr. Your choice.

i know, my Choice.

The Point is, which is , you mean, better/best possible (Picture Quality) for using 2160p hdr.mkv Files on wqhd Monitor with and without hdr Support?

Cheers

Edit: for mpc (and not mad vr), the Settings in my Pictures are the best one?

If you use HDR passthrough to your HDR screen then it does not matter. If you want to tonemap to SDR, then MadVR is better. But I don't think you want to tonemap.

MadVR is more difficult to configure and I am not giving any help with that.

MPC-HC options > Player > Keys > Brightness increase/decrease
You can assign keyboard shortcut there.

View list of existing shortcuts to see what is not yet used. You can click on Key column to sort it.

Hi Friend,
Thanks i found it in:
the in MPC HC / Options / Program / Keys
"but" when i include example F8 for Brigtness up and F9 for Brightness down = nothing happens.
when i test other Changes, like Audio Change from a to example F8, works fine!
when i test other Changes, like Subtitile Change from s to example F9, works fine!

so, the Colorroom Brightness up and down did not work in the MPC HC / Options / Program / Keys

Example, when i use Madvr and then go to codec tweal tool and use in there:
DirectShow Fiters / madVR / user interface / keyboard shortcuts and set example y for up and x for down = then it works fine by playing Video.

so, i think, shortkey setting by using MPC Video Renderer did not work for me ..

Thanks for helping

The brightness adjustment in MPC-HC applies to graphics driver. In your graphics driver settings the color controls must be set to use "player settings". If you override colors in driver, then it stops working in player.

With some driver you can not adjust colors for HDR video.

MadVR uses its own internal color adjustments.

If you are constantly needing to adjust brightness (by a lot), then maybe something is wrong on your system.

Edit: i switched to madVR and use now the shortkeys frm that
+ i changed the hdr tone from 200 to 100.
now, when i watch films, i can use x and y for decrease up and down.
Cheers.
