some videos from iPhone 15 are not playing

Hi!

Right now I have 95 videos in front of me of an average length of 3-30 seconds, shot at the same time on the same iPhone.

About half of them are not playing. And I noticed that it's the short clips up to 5-10 seconds that don't play. Those clips that play are usually more than 10 seconds and 100 megabytes.

When the video does not play, the player itself does not give any errors, just a black screen and audio =(

My attempts to solve the problem consisted in reinstalling 3 times the player and codecs set from standard to full.

Then I tried to change LAV Video Decoder settings. I tried many random combinations of "Hardware Decoder to use", "Hardware Device to use", "Software Deinterlacing"

Then I gave up

Plays ok here with version 18.2.6
Perhaps you tried with older version?

Standard variant is enough. All variants use exact same base codecs.
No need to change any settings.

I've tried 18.2.6 and the update to 18.2.7. Black screen. This is as weird as it gets. I'm starting to think that something incompatible with hardware or driver, but everything is fine with premier pro, after effects and others.

By the way, I decided to record a clip of what it looks like for me and just now realized that there were 2 iPhones. All those clips that don't play were taken on an iPhone 13. All the ones that do play back are on the 15

Press Ctrl+J to show video renderer debug overlay and make a screenshot.

In MPC Video Renderer settings, uncheck the boxes below "video processor". Maybe that helps. If it does, there is a bug in your graphics driver.

All the other settings are back to default. If I understand correctly, the problem is still in the video driver?

Yes, that is a driver bug.

Can you tell me which driver version you have got installed?

I apologize that the screenshots are not here. If you don't mind, I'd like to close access to these folders in the future, after we're done.

I think I have the same problem. For me it is random if the video plays with black screen and audio, or if it starts normally, but it can change with every launch of the file (although it is more prone to black screen than show normally). If it starts normally, sometimes it blacks out again if I put the player in full screen mode.

Unchecking either "Use resizing" or the setting @awesomefiga listed (P010/P016) will make the videoes play normally.

I have had this problem for the last 5-6 drivers from NVIDIA. I am now on the newest release, 552.12, Win11 23H2.

The frustrating thing is that a competitor whose name starts with "V" plays them all fine, but I don't want to use any other players because this one is almost perfect

I have a RTX 3090.

VLC probably doesn't use the D3D11 video processor. Disabling the option in MPC Video Renderer will make it use its own shaders, and not depend on graphics driver for scaling and color processing.

This issue is gone after installing NVIDIA driver 555.99, on both K-lite 18.3.5 and 18.4.0

The newer renderer has a workaround for the NVIDIA bug.
