Oh sorry , I was confused. That is the correct one. The about box shows a different version compared to when you view the properties of vsfilter.dll in Explorer. It's a left-over from when they changed the version numbering scheme in the past.

Are the crashes solved with this version?

Yes, the crashes are not appearing anymore because ofcourse, it's not using xy-VSFilter anymore.

Will future builds of MPC-HC include xy-VSFilter again?
I was hoping for a fix in the dll file itself or a patch in MPC-HC that will fix the error.

The solution provided in KLCP 12.0.8 is more of a service replacement rather.
I can do change vsfilter on my own with the regsvr method.
What you did with the update is catered for everyone's comfort, thank you for that.
But then yeah, error is not appearing anymore, so I guess it's okay.

About the smoothness of this current VSFilter version, is it better or even comparable to xy-VSFilter?
XySubFilter is intended for high performance quality rendering right?
xy-VSFilter is intended for less resource usage hence the smoothness.
So, what does this VSFilter cater?

No, it is unlikely that xy-VSFilter will be included again. Too many people are having problems with it.

The problem can only be fixed in xy-VSFilter, there is nothing that can be done by MPC-HC. The developer of xy-VSFilter has been missing for a long time, so it is unlikely that it will be fixed.

XySubFilter functionality is comparable to the internal subtitle filter of MPC-HC. It has the same quality. It also has the same limitation that the subtitle isn't included when taking a screenshot. This is because the rendered subtitle is merged with the video inside the video renderer, at a later moment in the processing pipeline.

XySubFilter and xy-VSFilter have a bit better performance, but only for a few specific SSA/ASS tags. For most videos there is no noticeable difference. It won't affect smoothness, unless a computer is too slow.

Now that xy-VSFilter has been removed, it is likely that XySubFilter will get added (to Mega). As far as I know that doesn't have the same stability issues.

I see, thank you for that explanation.

Output > Subtitle Renderer > VSFilter / DirectVobSub
→ uses auto-loading version of VSFilter and includes subtitle on screenshot

External Filters > VSFilter
External Filters > VSFilter auto-loading version
→ includes subtitle on screenshot

Now, I am wondering why does the auto-loading version of xy-VSFilter doesn't include screenshot

Output > Subtitle Renderer > VSFilter / DirectVobSub (old version 12.0.7 below)
→ uses auto-loading version of VSFilter and doesn't includes subtitle on screenshot

External Filters > xy-VSFilter
→ error appears for the 64-bit
→ includes screenshot

External Filters > xy-VSFilter auto-loading version
→ no errors
→ I could have just used this but then it doesn't include the subtitle on screenshot
→ but then there's a bug/problem that the DirectVobSub tray icon doesn't appear meaning that it isn't actually being used?

Output > Subtitle Renderer > VSFilter / DirectVobSub
This is enough to use VSFilter (or xy-VSfilter).

You do NOT need to add anything to external filters!!!!

To use xy-VSFilter instead of VSFilter, simply replace the file and regsvr32 it.

The tests that I mentioned didn't do double filter calls.

When I set it via Output > Subtitle Renderer method, I remove the external filter setting.
It's common sense to do that for testing out to find what's wrong and different among them.

Yeah, I know how to replace using regsvr32.

I don't know what exactly you do wrong.

This should work:
1) copy vsfilter.dll from old version (DirectVobSub64 folder)
2) install new version
3) replace vsfilter.dll and then regsvr32 it

Uhh, I did these tests before update 12.0.8

So you did not include VSFilter on the latest installer MEGA v12.1.0 ?

The normal VSFilter is still included. Only xy-VSFilter has been removed.

The only situation in which VSFilter is not installed, is when XySubFilter is already present on the system.
