Problem with codec and a DVD burner
Hello Everyone,
Just got a refurbished computer; and all is well except for getting the DVD burner to work. I've burned a CD; but when I try to make a DVD using the Windows DVD Maker, I get the following message:
MPEG-2 encoder is missing.
I also can't burn DVD's using Xilisoft DVD Maker or with DVDStyler. I have a feeling all of these problems stem from something in the codec.
I've tried loading K-Lite codec pack 832. I don't know if I have it configured properly though.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Problem with codec and a DVD burner
The problem isn't related to the codec pack.
I did some searching and I found this solution for you:
Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories and find the Command Prompt. Right-click on it and select "Run as administrator". In the command window that opens, type the following commands and press enter after each command:
regsvr32 msmpeg2enc.dll
regsvr32 msmpeg2vdec.dll
regsvr32 msmpeg2adec.dll

Re: Problem with codec and a DVD burner
Hello Admin!
I did as you said, even making sure I was running as Administrator; and still got the 0x90004005 error for the first and third entries (I was able to get the regsvr32 msmpeg2vdec.dll to go through.)
Any suggestions?

Re: Problem with codec and a DVD burner
Can you verify if the files are present on the computer?
Which version of Windows is it? Vista or 7? x86 or x64?
Are Windows Media Player and Media Center present on the computer? Removing them might have also removed those files.

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 bit. I purchased this computer as a refurbished machine, so sadly I don't know the machines history. I did search the machine, and both programs (msmpeg2enc.dll and msmpeg2adec.dll) are present.

Re: Problem with codec and a DVD burner
Just tested on my Windows 7 x64 machine and the files can be registered without error.
Try this command first to move to the x86 system folder:
cd %systemroot%\syswow64
Then try the other commands again.
Otherwise I don't know what is wrong. What kind of errors did those other programs give?
