Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
Hi,
I have a couple of fps test files that play perfectly in WMP and VLC but not in MPC. Any ideas?
Here is an example:

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
I try them all.
It's not a problem, because all the "real" videos I tried play well. I just find it strange that other players can reproduce it and MPC can't.

I do not know what is wrong with your system.
You can try updating your graphics driver.
You can try with hardware decoding disabled.

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
I tried to downgrade to MSI recommended graphics driver for my motherboard and have the same problem.
If you want I can send you one of these fps test files. Otherwise I give up.

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
It's not only the 60fps test file. It happens with all fps test files (23.976, 24, 25, 50, 59.94, 60 fps).
I made two experiences:
(1) Fresh install of K-lite Mega codec pack. Same problem.
(2) Uninstall K-Lite Mega codec pack and install MPC-HC x64 (clsid2). Everything works fine.

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
The only difference is a few default settings.
You already tried different video renderers. So try changing the audio renderer to DirectSound. K-lite defaults to SaneAR (WASAPI based).
The audio driver/device provides the reference clock that is used for playback. Maybe WASAPI interface doesn't work well on your system. An unstable/drifting clock can cause issues.

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
You are right. Never came to my mind that the problem could be with the audio renderer!
Problem solved. Many Thanks.

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
Good that it is solved.
What exactly would be the best description of the issue? An occasional framedrop or repeat? Or occasional stutter? Or something else?

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
Well, the fps tests begin with a timer starting at 5.000000 seconds and, when it reaches zero, shows three rows of vertical bars (like | | | |), each row flowing at different speeds.
With SaneAR on, the timer slowdown and stops before reaching zero. After that the video freezes.
You must be right assuming that there is a problem with the reference clock.

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
A video freeze is weird. Can you give a link to those test files?
Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
Yes indeed.
Here goes the link:
https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples
It is in the section "Codecs, Framerates, Black-levels and Subtitles"

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
I can reproduce with that file.
It seems to be a file specific issue with the audio timestamps, so not a general problem. Will investigate further later for a solution.

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
Yes. The problem is definitely related with the audio. I deleted the audio from one of the files and it plays perfectly with the SaneAR audio renderer enabled.
Note that the file is 10 min 5 s, and the audio is only 1 s 56 ms.

Re: Some fps test files dont't work in MPC
Yeah, the files are pretty much just "broken".
Sad that they are using such improper test files.
