Update Changelog 17.8.5 to 17.9.0 ~ 2023-10-29 Broke DroidCamX

I know i know.
It sound strange but hear me out.
Everything was alright some weeks ago.
But then, i used CCLeaner to auto-update everything that was outdated. K-Lite included.
Then, DroidCamX Bricked.
It connects, yes. But there's no camera on the PC side. Blank Screen.
Well, debug mode i go.
I've tested everything possible, i literally formated my windows three times to track this down.
Frash Windwos Install. Put DroidCamX, and works perfectly.
Install NVidia Geforce Experience. DCX works.
NVidia Broadcast? DCX Works.
Windows updates?
DCX Works.
Install a bunch of other QoL stuff.
DCX Works after each installation.
Install K-Lite MEGA 17.8.5 to 17.9.0 ~ 2023-10-29 (latest)
DCX bricks.

So found my culprit.
Tried uninstalling it.
DCX Still bricked.
Maybe some leftover file or configuration?
Something corrupted?
Restarted the PC.
DCX still Bricked.


Okey, format the PC again.
Install DCX?
Works.
Install latest K-Lite? Bricks.

Fuck me, third format.

This time, install DCX. Works.
Okey, let's get an older K-Lite Version. Exactly the version that i had downloaded originally , version 17.7.5 to 17.8.0 ~ 2023-09-11.
Disable auto-updates just to be sure.
Time for the final test and..
DCX Works fine.


So, i can say for sure, that after updating K-Lite Mega to the latest patch, something broke with my DroidCamX.
Funny enough, at the same time i updated to the latested K-Lite Mega, my Discord players started complaning that if our Music Bot (Kenku FM) is on the room, my voice starts to get wonky and robotic, while the music plays fine,while for me, their voices are normal but the music spikes and stutter. For me, not for them.


So yeah, i can say for certain that 17.8.5 to 17.9.0 ~ 2023-10-29 broke DroidCamX connection with the PC and may be the reason my music bot\my voice have gonne crazy.


I'll only be updating to the latest, after i test everything on a Virtual Machine because hell no i'm not formatin the computer AGAIN.

I have installed DroidCamX 6.9.2 (latest) and I don't see any problems. It starts normally. I can load a JPG image. The Camera app from Windows 10 shows that image normally.
What exactly isn't working in your case?

There is also nothing different in the newer installer that would persist after an uninstall.

And I also doubt that K-Lite has any effect at all on Kenku FM. I don't see any references in its code that is uses DirectShow codecs.

That's the strange thing.
When i install the newer K-Lite Codec Packs, i can be sure that the DroidCamX will bug.
As in, on the phone, the image appear, but on the PC APP, no video.
Tried even to stream through discord anyway, and yeap, nothing, only a black screen.
And i can be sure that it only happens whe instlling the Mega K-Lite Codec Pack.

Tomorrow i'll build up a virtual machine and see if i can run it through therre.
If possible, even record it.

The installer creates a log file in your temporary files folder. Keep that file so I can analyze it for anomalies.

Use the Standard version of the pack first. If that works without issue, then install Full and later Mega on top.

An update.

What i've done again, not on a virtual machine because i got lazy.
I've installed Version 17.8.0 Mega ~ 61.1 MB ~ September 11th 2023
It seemed to work okey.
Then i installed the Version 17.9.0 Mega ~ 62.7 MB ~ October 29th 2023 over the previous version, without uninstalling the 17.8.0

And now it's working.

Maybe something that was present on 17.8.0. Mega isn't present on 17.9.0 ?
And that's why, only updating directly instead of uninstalling 17.8.0 and then installing 17.9.0
Could have kept some file to make it compatible?

Most likely it was just caused by something else.
Windows does a lot of things behind your back, certainly on a new OS installation.

But, it the timeline is like
Install Codec Version 17.8.0 Mega day 6 October
All well until around day Oct 30 i runned my CCleaner software updater and it updated to Version 17.9.0 Mega
And then it bricked the DroidCamX.

So, this weekend 4/5 i've reseted the PC, clean windows install.
DroidCamX installed and functional. Installed direct the Version 17.9.0 Mega and DroidCamX stopped working.

Another windows reset.

Installed DroidCamX and it was functional. Then installed Version 17.8.0 Mega manually and.. It was working!
After that i risked installing manually, instead thorugh CCLeaner updater, the Version 17.9.0 Mega, choosing to just update, and not change or replace any setting from Version 17.8.0 Mega.

And now it's working.

So, my conclusion is that, there may be something lacking on the Version 17.9.0 Mega, that existed on previous versions, that have been changed and somehow, it bricked the Cam.
And well' im no IT guy, so it's purelly on testing and self-learn stuff.

I could reset my computer again, but too much hustle and i couldn't make the DroidCamX work on a virtual machine, so i can't even test it there.

There's also the possibility that it's a roll of the godly dice if it will work or not xD

If DroidCamX stops working properly, then there is a bug in DroidCamX. Ask its developers on how to debug a problem, instead of re-installing Windows each time.

I can not reproduce any issues, so I can't help.
