AVI file from Samsung DVR wont play with audio on new PC
I have an AVI file that was recorded and exported from a Samsung DVR. The file has video and audio and plays fine using KMplayer and an early version of codecs on an older windows 7 PC but I am trying to get it running on a new Windows 10 PC and I cannot get the audio to play at all. I have tried everything I know, multiple players, different codec packs, but the audio just will not play. I can make a sample file available if needed but any help would be greatly appreciated as I've exhausted my knowledge of such things now.

You need a codec for G.723 audio. Not to be confused with G.723.1 which is a different format.
Open the Registry Editor on your old computer:
regedit.exe
Then browse to these keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
See if you see any entries there that might be the codec you need.

Re: AVI file from Samsung DVR wont play with audio on new PC
Second key only exists on 64-bit versions of Windows.
That old KMPlayer should indicate somewhere which audio format it think it is and which decoder it is using. It should show a DirectShow filter list similar to MPC-HC. For example somewhere like: Menu > Play > Filters
Perhaps the old computer has software from Samsung installed for the DVR?
This can make a list of installed codecs (on the old computer):
Codec Tweak Tool > Generate Log

Re: AVI file from Samsung DVR wont play with audio on new PC
Most likely this is the one you need:
c:\program files\samsung\sipp codec\xaudiodecoderex.ax
1) Copy that file the new computer. Check the folder if it contains additional DLL files, you might need to copy those as well.
2) Then on new computer, click on Start menu, type "cmd". Windows should show Command Prompt as a result. Choose to "Run as Administrator" (important).
3) Then type this command:
regsvr32 c:\location\where\you\put\xaudiodecoderex.ax
Since this decoder is 32-bit, you need to use a 32-bit player (x86)!
If you run the K-Lite installer again, choose to modify, then you can additionally select the x86 version of MPC-HC.
