MKV video files play LOUD
Win10, updated, using default Realtek HD Audio Manager, built-into-the-system board sound card.
MKV videos blast at highest level possible. Volume control doesn't function.
Volume on all other formats -- MP4, AVI, WAV, MP3 -- are normal and volume can be controlled by Realtek.
Dunno if it's Codec Tweak Tool or some other issue.
Any ideas very welcome.

Re: MKV video files play LOUD
Did you perhaps enable bitstreaming to a receiver? When bitstreaming only the receiver can modify volume!
AAC/MP3 format is not bitstreamed, so that can explain why those can be adjusted on the computer.

Plus why do you need to adjust volume with Realtek? The player has a volume slider.

You're right, I don't. I use Volume2 for controlling volume.

I have to admit that in all my years in technology, I'm totally weak understanding sound files and codecs.

I am not bitstreaming -- oh, wait, yes, the sound is going through a Logitech Logitech Z-5300e THX-Certified speaker sysem.
see it here
Beyond that -- LOL -- forgive me, you are taking in another language, one that I don't understand.

Re: MKV video files play LOUD
Bitstreaming is sending the audio in its original compressed form to external device for decoding. That looks like a normal speaker set.
Bistreaming is disabled by default, but you can adjust settings:
Codec Tweak Tool > Audio Output
Your problem is likely caused by a bug in that volume control application.
Try changing the audio renderer:
MPC-HC options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer

I set it back to Default and that did the trick. Thanks for your guidance!
