MPC refuses to automatically load embedded Japanese (jpn) subtitles

For some reason, my MPC 1.9.24.38 (768143283) player doesn't automatically load jpn subtitles. It prefers the option "No subtitles", and I don't know why. Yes, if I manually select the Japanese subtitles in Play > Subtitle Track the subtitles play without any problem. However, it is really weird for me.

I tried to change the Play Settings to include "jpn" in the Subtitles field, but nothing happens.

I tried to change the Subtitles -> Others Settings to also include "jpn" in the Preference Order field, but nothing happens.

What should I do?

Options > Internal Filters > Splitter

There you can configure which embedded subtitles should be selected by default.
