Lags with AVC h.264 @L4.0 on AMD Radeon Graphics APU and LAV 0.76.1.25-git
I can play my DVB-S2 videos saved in h.264 L4.0 with the LAV h264 decoder only with lags or lets say with 5 fps. All other videos with IDC Level 3.1, 4.1 or 5.0 are functional. If I recode in L4.0 the file is also functional though.
The only way to avoid this is using a different codec than LAV or deselecting Hardware acceleration for the h.264 codec.
How can I select the codec for MPC-HC ? This was not possible for me. Could I edit the merit in the registry so I can use the microsoft codec for h.264?

You can set another decoder as preferred in "external filters" section of the options.
Your problem seems to be the same as this one:
https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/issues/496
Please try K-lite 17.2.7 beta. That has a newer version of LAV Filters with updated FFmpeg. Maybe that solves the problem.

Re: Lags with AVC h.264 @L4.0 on AMD Radeon Graphics APU also with LAV 0.76.1.30-git
Yes, the github is exactly the same issue.
Solved the h.264 Issue for MPC-HC:
Open View-> Options -> External Filters
Add Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder or similar as an external filter and set it to "preferred". Then you can watch these h.264 streams again without stuttering.
I deinstalled 17.2.7 Mega and tried 17.2.0 again, unless many things in the configuration were spooky. Also I tried to update to the newst AMD Driver. The isssue ist still there also in LAV 0.76.1.30-git as with the latest AMD driver.
A third way to solve the issue is to disable LAV in the Codec Tweak Tool, but LAV comprises also other codecs, thus not recommendable, you cannot even play any other codec having LAV as the best merit then, although other codecs are available. You have to change the codec Tweak Tool this way so you can disable the LAV only for one Codec, or you have to disable the LAV also in the Registry merits, or update the merits.

You can also just disable hardware decoding in the settings of LAV Video Decoder. It is even possible to disable it just for H.264.

Yes, but the CPU consumes more Energy then ;-) Better ist to use a working codec.
