Not working?
I have used K-lite for decades and never had an issue with it but here lately I cannot play any videos they keep stopping windows media player is giving me a popup saying it cannot play the video after a minute or two if that. I have been looking into this and I believe that it is not using the codec, that they are not connected?
I have a dell E5430 running windows 10 everything is up to date.

Re: Not working?
Windows Media Player does not always use the codecs from K-Lite.
Read this:
http://codecguide.com/configuration_tips.htm
I strongly recommend to use the Media Player Classic that is bundled with K-Lite. That is a much better player.

I read the information at the link you provided. I uninstalled K-lite and reinstalled it with the WMPC and so far I have tried two movies and one TV series they are all freezing within a few minutes at most. if I manually advance them they play for a while then freeze again.
I also went back to WMP and tried the movies and now they do not play at all, I just get the message that WMP encountered an error and could not play the file and again I see no indication in the taskbar that WMP is opening any codecs it is like they are not connected for WMP to use K-lite? the movies I tried are popular ones Thor love and thunder and bullet train each had seeds in the hundreds.
This is something I failed to put in the original post I have not issues playing music that is only videos, movies and TV shows and series

Re: Not working?
Could be an issue with the Intel graphics driver.
Open the options of LAV Video Decoder and disable hardware accelerated decoding at the top right.
Does the laptop get hot?
Also test if the problem also occurs with the power cord plugged in.
Yes, WMP uses codecs from Microsoft by default for most stuff. But this doesn't look like a codec related problem.

Re: Not working?
Some general tips I can give for improved system stability are:
- disable "fast boot" in Windows settings
- disable hibernate/sleep
This ensure that Windows does a proper clean start each time you turn on the laptop. Helps to avoid all kinds of weird driver related issues.

I have a dell Venue 11 tablet running windows 10 pro that I installed the K-lite on and tried the movies and TV show on it and go the same thing only it froze at a different point?
I have never had an issue with the WMP not using the K-lite codec but I know that the codec in use would show in the toolbar at the bottom and now there are none which makes me think for some reason WMP is not using them?
no the laptop is not getting hot and the laptop is always plugged in at the desk. i will look into the LAV and try it.
Thanks for taking the time to help me

I know Hybernation and sleep are off I never have them on, on any computer I own.
I will take a look at bios and see about the fast boot and then test it again.
Thank you for helping me

Re: Not working?
Fast boot is a setting in Windows. The one in your BIOS is a different one. You don't need to change that.

Movies&TV only uses the Media Foundation codecs from Windows. WMP uses Media Foundation for some formats, and DirectShow (K-Lite) for everything else.
Are the freezes at random points or always at same point for a file? Same point could possibly mean a damaged file.

I found this setting and turned it off I see the difference in the bootup but I do not see how this would affect the playback I understand that fast boot is kind of a hibernation hybrid but I turned it off just for testing.

So I downloaded the new scooby doo movie called trick or treat Scooby-Doo and the Maltese falcon. The Maltese Falcon does not work on either WMP or WMPC it stops working on about 58 seconds with WMP I can manually advance to video beyond that point and it will play for a while before randomly stopping again but on WMPC I cannot when it stops at 58 seconds it will eventually become unstuck but goes back to the start
Are the freezes at random points or always at same point for a file? The same point could possibly mean a damaged file.
As an example, the Maltese falcon stops at 58 seconds but in the other movies I talked about Thor love and thunder and whatever the other one was they stopped not always at the same spot but near the same spot.
On the bright side the scooby doo movie works on both so I have a known video to use as tester.
I had something interesting come to light when I tried to turn off "Lav decoder" as you suggested I found that there was no K-lite in start? I had to uninstall it and reinstall it when I did this one the first page I think it was I disabled the LAV decoder but while watching scooby doo on WMPC there a white background LAV splitter and a red background LAV video decoder so and this time when I installed K-lite i now have the file under start?
I am continuing to play with this I had thought it was the videos but I am not convinced at this point.

I think I got this figured out! I had taken the videos I tested the Maltese falcon, blackout that did not work, and the new Scooby Doo movie (which did work) and I uninstalled K-lite and tried them all with no change. Then I realized I had missed something and that was I use external hard drives, the one I was using was a Fujitsu 125GB in an external case it tested out as good but I thought and did take another external not in use with a Western Digital blue 320 GB and downloaded all three of these movies plus the new Batman long Halloween deluxe edition and a 3 part mini-series and started with the Maltese Falcon it played perfectly and then blackout (terrible movie) played perfectly and so did Scooby Doo.
I am now watching the three-part mini-series and no issues and I am actually watching the mini series on my tablet instead of laptop and no issue so far, I am of the mind right now that this whole thing was just a shitty hard drive from Asia?
Also I have not reinstalled K-lite as I wanted to see if the movies played without it on the WD and if they failed I would have reinstalled K-lite and tried again but they played without K-lite.
Thank you for your help with this your suggestions opened new avenues of investigation when I was stuck and they led to the answer.

Re: Not working?
Yes, definitely a broken harddrive. Or maybe even a fake one if you recently bought it.
