Setup for Win10, MPC, WMR, DEOVR, and others

I have a desktop PC custom built. I had Win10, MPC, DEOVR, a bunch of other things all working nicely.

Then I had to do a format & reinstall. Win10 21H2. No hardware change.

At this point, I also installed all the extensions in http://www.codecguide.com/media_foundation_codecs.htm

Then I found some existing videos would no longer play on DEOVR. It would either stutter, crash, or work.
Some would be
Format : HEVC
Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding
Format profile : Main@L5.2@Main
Codec ID : hev1
And others

I've also found some other WMR stuff would play mp3 with no sound.

I tried K-Lite Codec Pack Std which I've always used
* uninstalled
* installed for all
* installed for MPC only

Nothing would fix all of deovr. Some would fix other wmr stuff.
I haven't tried tweaking individual codecs, and don't remember if I did so in the old installation.

Can you advise how to try things out to get them working?

DeoVR has an option to choose between Media Foundation and DirectShow. Check that it is set to MF.

For crashes look in the Windows Event Viewer. That should show details about the crashing module.

I suggest trying a newer or older version of the graphics driver. For example some recent AMD drivers had some issues with hardware acceleration.

MP3 playback in the Windows players is done with codecs from Windows.

What is the unity player option? Is it good or bad to use?

Probably bad. I don't use DeoVR myself.

1635 is an old version. Use 1720.
