Default Direct Sound Device not working Empty Default Direct Sound Device not working

Hello there. I'm using 17.0.5 (worked before). A have PC, TV and Headphones (3 devices for playback). I'm checking Default DirectSound Device in Audio Renderer and I don't have sound anywhere. But If I check DirectSound PC (or just PC) or DirectSound Headphones (or just Headphones) I do have sound. I tried to use SaneAR for default - the same. Also tried to rollback to 17.0.0 - the same. But if I play music from iTunes (Also DirectSound), I can switch my devices through Windows (11) and it plays on them all. Help me please. Smile

You are the third person this month that has reported having this issue.

The DirectSound audio renderer is a filter from Microsoft. The devices selection is done by the renderer in case of default device, so the player is not involved.

So I highly suspect things got broken because of a Windows update, or maybe a sound driver update. Do you know when exactly the problem started? You could have a look at the Windows update history in the Windows Settings, and maybe try reverting the last update (you can always update again).

Please test if sound also fails when playing a file with the GraphStudioNext tool (included in K-lite Mega). That also uses Default DirectSound Device as renderer.

And with SaneAr as renderer, does explicitly selecting PC/Headphone on the "audio renderer" settings page in options also work?

Can you also copy the hardware details section of this log please?
Codec Tweak Tool > Generate Log

Hopefully all this information helps to figure out the cause of the problem.

Big thanks. The only thing that happened - yesterday my user profile was corrupted, so I rolled back to restore point 06.06.2022. I really hope that's not the issue and I have no need in reinstalling Windows... I didn't update any drivers for my soundcard. SaneAR works only when I select PC or Headphone, but - System Default doesn't work. I've made all you asked, but I didn't see any attachment buttons here... How can I upload it here?

You can copy/paste the contents of the log file here. You can open it with Notepad or any other text editor.

You can also upload files to for example https://www.sendspace.com

What you could do is create another user account, and test if sound work properly when using that account. When you no longer need the test account, you can just remove it.

What you can also try is this:
Codec Tweak Tool > Fixes > Clear audio device filter cache

For someone else with a similar problem, the first file opened plays with sound, and any file after that is silent. Re-starting the player will make the first one play again. Is your problem the same, or is the first opened file already silent?

I noticed that your NVIDIA driver and the sound driver that comes with it were installed on same day as your restore point. What you could try is to re-install the driver. During installation there is an option to reset settings to factory default. Enable that.

All my programs are installed 06.06.2022 now. Smile It's a bug maybe, because of a rollout. But yes, I tried to install old Realtek driver - 9225.1. No success.(

For me - the first is silent. And second one, and third one...

Also I use NVIDIA driver only for my TV.

Also re-install the NVIDIA driver.

After that check the Windows sound settings to verify that the correct device is set as default.
The log was not showing the Realtek driver, only the NVIDIA audio driver.

I hate system restore. It can often create a giant mess because it only restores parts of the system. Best is to re-install all your important software and drivers when having trouble after a restore.

Codec Tweak Tool > Fixes > Reset Windows Audio Volume Mixer volume settings for all applications

I've re-installed NVIDIA (with a clean install) and made Fix. Nothing happened. Sad
And I can deal with if I could switch filters from the menu, But I can't, the only way is to go to options. SadDefault Direct Sound Device not working 8DJ92iP0ltVIIAAAAASUVORK5CYII=

You can try Default WaveOut Device. Only downside is that volume of player then controls the general volume in Windows.

Unrelated, but I recommend using the internal subtitle renderer instead of XySubFilter.

I don't know what is broken on your system, so I don't have a solution.

Did you try creating a second user account for testing? Then you at least know if the problem is user specific or system wide.
