Mathematics Prerequisite for Video Encoding

Hi guys,

I am beginning to become interested in multimedia software development. Before, my main interest was only Games Development. I would like to know if somebody can give some references about mathematical behind in Video Encoding. Please start from the beginning. Btw, the Mathematical behind in Games Development was mainly Linear Algebra. I know that Video Encoding is pretty much complicated itself and involves Calculus.
