3D MVC movie picture freezes on fullscreen when using MadVR

I am having the following issue when trying to play 3D MVC movies on my PC:

3D works, but as soon as I switch to fullscreen mode the picture freezes. I can hear the audio going. If I press Alt-Enter to exit fullscreen mode the movie continues to play without problems.
When exiting fullscreen mode I see "copying back buffer failed new mode"

I tried to downgrade MadVR to some older versions to no avail.
Also tried some options in MadVR like fullscreen exclusive mode on/off. Still no go.

Disabling smooth motion option might help. Otherwise I can only suggest to completely reset the madvr settings. You can do that with the Codec Tweak Tool.

If you have enabled hardware acceleration for "H.264 MVC" in LAV Video Decoder, then I recommend to disable that because it is known to be unstable.

Smooth motion was never enabled. H.264 MVC is unchecked.

This is some laptop with Optimus.
Video cards are Intel HD 4400 and NVIDIA GT 745M. I tried DDU the NVIDIA card with internet disabled. When I restarted I enabled internet so I can start 3D Blu-Ray from my network share. I was very surprised too see it worked fullscreen!
Next day I tried again and it wasn't working again.
After some investigation I noticed that when it is working its when NVidia driver is still not installed by Windows (automatically).
I changed the Windows settings for preferred adapter for MPC-HC64.EXE to be Intel Graphics. It was High Performance (NVidia) before.
It worked.
I never knew Intel Graphics Adapter supported 3D MVC Frame Packed.
I will be using that for now, but I will investigate more the NVidia driver. It should be working. PowerDVD is working but have other issues. I may try Kodi. Also I may try to strip the NVidia driver with NVslimmer.

NVidia removed 3D vision support from their drivers. That could be the reason for your issue.

The latest driver for this "obsolete" video card GT 745M is by accident latest driver with 3D support - 425.31. So 3D is supported.
Which is perfect because Windows doesn't want to update it to newer driver. And the 3D is working just not fullscreen. If MadVR is for example using fullscreen windowed mode it would work I guess.

Like in games. There are 3 modes:
Fullscreen ALT-TAB is slow. This is some
Fullscreen windowed (big window covering the full screen without frames) ALT-TAB is fast.
And Windowed. (with frames)

My surprise is that Intel video drivers support 3D. Do AMD support 3D MVC frame packed movies too?

Yes, Intel and AMD also support it.

I don't have any tips for fixing the NVIDIA issue. Optimus can sometimes behave weirdly because the two drivers have to interact.

Hello. one year later :-) Are you still able to play 3d mvc files with madvr ?
i'm facing the 3d movies playback nightmare on PC too...
i'm actually not able to find a satisfactory (working) solution.
On a Quadro T1000 wich still support Quad-buffering and 1080p Frame packing output:
"Stereoscopic player" is able to read some of my 3d "backup" (some are in H264-MVC and some are in Full-TAB, Full-SBS, Half-TAb and H-SBS...) and.... render them in 1080p frame packed to the projector.

MPC-HC with MadVR do the job ONLY with MVC files... wich is just a shame, why MVC and not others ?

KODI is able to read ANY 3D Files (MVC, TAB, SBS,...) an RENDER them in ANY output format (frame packed , SBS, TAB,.....) BUT has other bugs...

PS: H264-MVC is an encode-store-decode format and Frame packing is HDMI 3d output format (for full 3D res, it is 1920x2205 in 24fps)

Yep, thanks ! i'm in the process of bying a second hand synology... MVC backup of 3D BR are really space consumming
