HDR playback causes player crash with new AMD drivers

wow, any way to resize pics in the forum?!

ive been having a HDR playback issue that started with the Dec. 21.12.1. driver release. im using the current player/codec pack 1.6.7 but if i update my gpu drivers past 21.11.3 the player locks up with any hdr file with the below error. if i rollback to an older version of the player, 1.6.5.3 or below it will play but ignores hdr. ive tried uninstalling everything, DDU, amd's clean up tool, different older codec packs etc etc. for now ive stuck to the working 21.11.3 and 1.6.7 combo. any ideas?!

This has a bugfix in the renderer that might also solve your crash.

Otherwise, disable "Use Direct3D 11" in MPCVR. This will also disabled HDR passthrough, and it will done basic tone mapping instead.

ill try that. i want to install the newer amd drivers for god of war but dont want to loose HDR playback.

didnt help. the only way it doesnt give the error is if i disable dx11 but then hdr doesnt work, it only converts to sdr. ive submitted the error to AMD as well but have not heard anything yet...

16.7.5 has a dx11 related fix in LAV Flters. Maybe that has a positive effect on your issue.

thanks for letting me know that its out, ill give it a go in a bit and let you know what i find. amd has also released a new driver, no mention of any hdr related fixes, but ya never know with them...

i updated to the amd 22.1.2 driver, broke hdr playback again. installed codec pack 16.7.5, still no hdr, same exact error with audio playing. i have to force close via task man.
edit: if i turn off dx11 it will play but converts hdr to sdr, thats it.
edit2: i reverted back to amd 21.11.3 and hdr is working again with codec 16.7.5 and dx11. its got to be something introduced in 21.12.1 and up.

i just tried codec pack 16.7.7 beta with driver 22.1.2 and i still get the exact same error. amd finally replied and asked me to do everything i have already done and ended with "install 22.1.2, its the correct driver and should work"....

There is nothing I can do. AMD has to fix it.

thats what i figured. all im getting from them is "it should work" argh. thanks anyway!!

Maybe they did not test with the exact same settings.

HDR video + Direct3D11 enabled in the video renderer.

just wanted to give you an update as i gave up on this for a while...
i updated to codec 16.8.8 and the newest 22.2.3 amd drivers today and my problems have been fixed. i did the same update procedure as i always so and now hdr works correctly(at least the way i want).
16.8.8 with anything between 21.11.3 and 22.2.3 did not work, it was def. something in the driver.
