Picassa displays .mp4s sideways after K-Lite Codec installation
Using Picasa on:
Toshiba laptop Satellite P55W-C
Windows 10 Home version 10.0.19044
CPU: Intel Core i7-6500U @250GHz
GPU: Intel HD 520
Graphics Driver version 27.20.100.9416
I've imported and viewed .mp4 files in Picasa for many years. This year I noticed that Picasa wouldn't import some of my new .mp4 files. So hoping to correct this, a couple weeks ago I installed the K-Lite Codec, version 16.6.5 (Full).
Next time I started Picasa it began re-importing all my video files, and they were rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise, plus they were only using part of the screen. Using Picasa's rotate button only makes it worse. These .mp4s still display correctly in other apps (MPC-HC, Movies & TV, Photos, VLC, Windows Media Player).
How can I fix the display in Picasa?
Separate Issue: I notice there are K-Lite updates available. Which should I install:
16.7.0 (normal installer)
or
16.7.0 (cumulative update for 16.6.5)

Re: Picassa displays .mp4s sideways after K-Lite Codec installation
Those videos (from your phone) are recorded sideways and contain rotation metadata that the player can use to display it vertically.
I can't help you with Picasa.
Both updates do the same.

Why doesn't K-Lite

Whatever Picasa was using previously to display .mp4s displayed them ok but was spotty about importing new .mp4s. Is there a codec other than K-Lite that might work better?

Re: Picassa displays .mp4s sideways after K-Lite Codec installation
There is not really any better alternative for mp4.
But I am curious which filter was used before, and if there are any differences in signaling the rotation.
This allows you to create a list of all installed filters:
Codec Tweak Tool > Generate Log
Hide the ones from Windows/K-Lite, to show just third party ones.
