Strange issue involving double subtitles
This is a weird one. I was looking for players that can display two subtitles. I already have one, GOM Player, but it doesn't do well with streaming and tends to crash. So I tried out Light Alloy and KMPlayer. They seemed to work okay. Then, they didn't. I lost the ability to render two subtitles in BOTH players. Even though these players use internal subtitle renderers. In Light Alloy, only subtitle #2 will load subtitles now, #1 won't, so I'm stuck with only subtitles at the top. In KMPlayer, the option to output the 2nd subtitle simply disappeared, and there are now just two separator bars next to each other in the menu where the 2nd subtitle options once were.
My GOM Player didn't lose its ability. My only theory is that the Kaspersky Internet Security I am trying out may have messed it up somehow. System protection is a great idea in theory, but stopping untrusted processes in the middle of operations on other processes and registry keys seems like it may hurt more than it helps. Some alerts came up, in KMPlayer I believe, one I remember was about permission for "duplicating the handle of explorer.exe" or some such, and some registry access. I approved all these of course, but soon after was when the problem started.
As far as I know, I haven't had any other problems with Kaspersky. It's only a guess anyway. I poured over a snapshot of my registry from a few days ago, trying to find any bad modifications, but it's a lot to sift through. I used a tweak tool to rebuild the DirectShow filters. It's a very weird issue indeed. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't help you with those players.
For MPC-HC you can find instructions in our FAQ for double subtitles.

Re: Strange issue involving double subtitles
Much thanks. I was able to get it working that way, though it's a little more work than the players that natively support 2 subtitles. I downloaded a fork of MPC-HC since the original is quite old. Very strange to suddenly lose the ability like that in two different players. They must share something in common that I messed up somehow. GOM Player also has no way to hide the controls making it not very good streaming.
