MPC audio often randomly blasts loudest possible white noise until playback is stopped
- No matter what format of videos I'm playing with MPC, if I'm using any of the built-in audio, I can't go 5 minutes without the sound suddenly blasting the loudest possible white noise (ear piercing) until I stop playback, and I have to fiddle with the seek bar or other settings before playback will play audio correctly again. (Space bar to stop then starting again will just bring back the noise.)
- If I turn the volume of MPC all the way down to the lowest possible level without being muted, sometimes the noise clears up a little and I can hear the video again, but it's still too loud and rife with clipping distortion.
- As far as I can tell, this only happens when I'm using my primary audio interface (an Alesis iO2 USB interface which has no issues with any my audio software, and which has balanced 1/4" mains that I need for my studio monitors.)
- It happens most every time I run the software, but it's not something that I can force to happen, it's completely random.
- I'm using Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, latest updates etc.
- I always update the codec pack, so currently sitting on 16.5.1 and frequently perform clean installs, resetting all settings, to no avail. No settings seem to have any kind of effect that would help narrow the problem down, but I'm guessing it's a weird bug between the internal audio renderer of MPC and the driver for my audio interface (which is a basic windows audio driver, no special software is needed for it.)
- I can have any number of other audio devices (virtual and otherwise) enabled/connected at the same time, and as long as I'm outputting the sound from MPC to my iO2, I get the noise. I run Abelton Live, Propellerhead Reason, WaveLab, a million VST and VSTi plugins, routing the audio to and through all my audio gear and have never had this problem, so I'm 99.9% sure that it's not defective hardware or incorrect configuration.
- I love MPC and really wanna keep using it without the likelihood of premature hearing loss.

I can assure you that the problem is not coming from MPC or the codecs. But just in case, check if "volume normalization" is disabled in the internal stream switcher settings.
There are different interfaces for interacting with the sound driver (WaveOut/DirectSound/WASAPI/ASIO) and some may bypass the Windows Sound mixer. So that is why behavior can differ between applications.
My first suggestion would be to open the Windows Sound settings. Select the audio device, click on the Properties button, go to the Advanced tab. Enable the checkbox to disable all sound enhancements.
