Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
Hi! long time k-lite user here, pardon my bad english but i need some help, i can't get 5.1 on my new Rysen motherboard, is kinda tricky but i have done it before, my setup is this:
GIGABYTE B450M DS3H>>>HDMI>>>TOSHIBA LCD TV>>>SPDIF>>>PANASONIC AMP
See my amp is old and does not have hdmi input, my tv only outputs Dolby digital via spdif, before i used spdif directly from pc to the amp and not a problem, now since it bridges with the tv i can't get dolby, my motherboard support 5.1 but it doesn't matter since afaik you cant transmit raw 5.1 signal over spdif, so i need to convert to dolby digital live via codecs, i did this on another pc using ac3 filter, but the most i get now is prologic on the amp, i have the latest drivers and tinkered with everything, i did follow the faq but no joy, please help

Connect the SPDIF directly between computer and amp.
Here is FAQ for settings for converting to Dolby Digital (AC3):

Hi! well the thing is, my pc does not have a spdif output, is capable of but it does not have a physical port.

In that case, use the HDMI, but configure it same way as a SPDIF connection. So only enable bitstreaming for AC3 and DTS. Convert everything else to AC3, as described in the FAQ.
If the TV does not support passing on DTS, then disable that as well.
Start your tests with a video that already contains AC3. Once you get that working, then the rest should be a matter of correct configuration.

Ok you mean following this?:
[3a] Convert to AC3 with MPC-HC with LAV audio decoder and ffdshow audio processor

Test with a video that contains AC3 first. That is the most simple situation where no conversion is needed. It is important to get that working properly first.
Re: Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
Ok i did all that and tested with some ac3 files but same result, only prologic, the lav decoder show this in status:

Disable the "Fallback to PCM" option in LAV Audio Decoder.
Re: Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
Also check that the correct audio device (HDMI digital output) is selected as default in Windows Sound Settings. In the Properties of the device you can see if it supports bitstreaming.
Re: Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
If i disable that option then i get no sound at all and the output in status shows "bitstreaming"
the hdmi audio device (tv) is selected as default and in the options it shows dolby as "code format"
is funny because i got dolby using a borrowed pc with the same config i think, and also with an older one using ac3 codec but i can't get it to work in this one

Re: Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
waaah it just worked with a eac3 format? but is not always, i let play the file and suddenly i got sound and it was dolby! eac3 is not even marked for bitstreaming, so i did uncheck ac3 but not sound, reenabled it and still not sound, what? oh and normal ac3 still play sound without check in bitstreaming, i don't understand at all, maybe is my old amp that acts weird
edit: also ac3 files loads lav audio decoder while eac3 loads that and lav audio processor, what is the one i should be using and marking options?

Re: Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
eac3 can have an embedded ac3 core that can be bitstreamed.
ffdshow audio processor should only get loaded when LAV Audio decoder is not bitstreaming.
You can try with different audio renderer:
MPC-HC > Options > Playback > Output

Re: Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
So i tested a lot of clips with another renders and i think is the same thing, dolby kicks in randomly and if i switch quickly to another clip it works but if i stop the video for more than 5 seconds is gone, same for dts, i dunno why is like that, also i get sound on ac3 files when unchecked in bitstreaming, so im confused, in my case, i even need to bitstream when my tv shows is getting pcm audio? what lav instance i need to configure? sometimes it loads audio decoder and processor

Re: Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
In my old pc via spidf, the motherboar encoded to dolby live and dts connect so all the system audio was in dolby, but the thing is, if i was not playing a sound for a moment the dolby was gone, so what i did is uses sound keeper which emits a constant inaudible sound so it gets the dolby on always, so maybe the problem is something like that? how i would convert all the system audio in dolby? is even possible with my setup?

Re: Can i get some help for geting 5.1 in my setup?
Yes, your problem seems to be that your system can not handle pauses in the data flow. Sometimes the audio driver is smart enough to handle this by sending "silence" when bitstreaming pauses. You could try different version of your driver.
Otherwise you will have to accept using stereo PCM output.

I kinda got it using ac3 filter, i get dolby on ac3 and dts files so is fine, it still kicks in when it wants but i guess i just need to keep tweaking things, thanks for your help and time!

If your DAC/Amp has an HDMI slot (has to have ARC support too, but I'm not entirely sure), you can use the HDMI OUT ARC from your TV to the amplifier. Everything connected on the other ports of the TV will forward the sound from the HDMI OUT (ARC) port to the DAC/amplifier.
The downside is that ARC is limited to 1Mbps, meaning that 5.1 sound will be compressed by the TV (should be bitstreamed from the GPU to the TV though, which means that you don't need to fiddle with ffdshow). eARC removes this limitation, but only recent devices have eARC.

Thanks but my amp does not have hdmi input, i got it sorted using some "special drivers" that i probably cant talk here, but now all my sound is coded to dolby even games but with a slight lag, but everything else works great

I assume you mean the "unlocked" Realtek drivers? You can talk about such things here. No problem.

Ah ok yeah that i was using one before but only worked with spdif, now i got one that let me configure the format output in the hdmi, so i just choose DD and all set
