Problem playing ASF files in WMP
Dear all,
I am trying to make WMP to play some files contained in ASF files. I am using Windows 10 (64 bits) and installed the last version of the K-Lite Codecs Pack (16.1.2), basic version.
When using other tools such as VLC Player or Avidemux, I see the codec information of the file, which uses H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) for video stream and PCM MU-LAW (mlaw) for audio stream.
It actually plays OK using VLC Player, however I need to use WMP as this is the standard player in my organization.
I read about the problems with WMP and Media Foundation codecs, and I have explored the use of the Codec Tweak Tool, however, I am not able to find the exact option to force ASF to use LAV or unable the use of Media Foundation. I have tried many different options unsucessfully.
Pehaps somebody has came up with a solution for this?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Re: Problem playing ASF files in WMP
Try renaming it to .wmv
I would recommend using MPC-HC player. That is included with K-Lite Standard, and also available as a standalone portable application.
Media Foundation tweaks require administrative access. I don't know if you have that.
Would you be able to upload a sample file that gives you issues? Then I can test if there is an easy solution for making it play with WMP.

Dear Admin,
Thanks for your feedback.
Renaming to .wmv does not help either. Use of MPC-HC player is also not an option, it has to be WMP.
I do have administrative access.
I can also share a sample file (about 80 MB), but where do I send it?

Re: Problem playing ASF files in WMP
Dear Admin,
I was trying the proposed 'sendspace' option, but I do get an error after uploading the file and I cannot get a shareable link.
As alternative I have prepared a shared folder in Google Drive containing the file, but when trying to share the link using a private message, the forum does not allow me because being new user, I have a 7 day no-external-message restriction, apparently.
If you would like to provide me with a email address with a private message, then I could share the link with you.
Kind regards

Re: Problem playing ASF files in WMP
Renaming the file from .asf to .video should make it play in WMP. No further tweaks necessary. The rename will make WMP bypass Media Foundation. The pack uses LAV Splitter by default for .video extension.
