annoying stuttering during video playback with Ryzen 5900x + RTX 3070
Hello All,
I have K-lite 15.9.5, and for more than a year now i am experiencing a lot of stuttering when viewing videos on my Panasonic TX-P55VT50E TV.
It happens on my brand new PC (detailled below) and on my previous desktop which had a Geforce RTX 2070. It happens on SD, HD, FullHD files...
I used to experience perfectly fluid videos playback when i had a Geforce GTX 970 few years ago, since i upgraded i was never able to get satisfying results...
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Here is my actual PC Specs :

Re: annoying stuttering during video playback with Ryzen 5900x + RTX 3070
I also experience this since long and I made a topic about it here with a temporary solution: https://codecs.forumotion.net/t3747-stutter-while-playing-videos-solution-please-add-the-option-to-enable-v-sync-to-mpc-video-renderer-or-if-possible-to-madvr-as-well
TL;DR Force V-Sync on MPC in Nvidia control Panel. I just hope the V-Sync option can be turned on within the player on madVR or the MPC Video Renderer which is now the default one.
IMO the dev should enable VSync by default on these renderers.
Edit: Based on the report, I see you use are using the EVR CP renderer, this should allow the VSync option to be turned on within MPC. Just go to View > Options > Renderer Settings and turn VSync on, this should solve the stuttering. If it doesn't, just use madVR or MPC Video Renderer and force VSync from the Nvidia Control Panel using the "Program Settings" in "Manage 3D settings" and apply it on MPC.

Yes, you should turn on VSync in the NVIDIA settings.

It is indeed WAY BETTER, thanks for the hint ! Unfortunately i still experience some occasional tearing and stuttering. Any idea ?

On the " Renderer Settings " page, everything is greyed out so i cannot modify anything.

Not sure why it's grayed out, maybe depends on hardware after all. Anyway I think I can sometimes feel a bit of stuttering even with VSync on but it's at least 90% better than before turning VSync on.
I found the best setting is using madVR and setting "frames to present in advance" to 2 (setting it to 1 can cause screen tearing) in madVR settings (as suggested by Admin in my linked topic) and turning on VSync in Nvida CP. You can also try MPC Video Renderer with Vsync on in NCP.
How much stuttering you have depends also on your monitor, not just the GPU. I have a Full HD 24" normal monitor with zero stuttering even when VSync is off but on my 43" 4K it's the worst.

Indeed MADVR + "frames to present in advance" to 2 gives the best results here too ! Thank you very much for the help !

Re: annoying stuttering during video playback with Ryzen 5900x + RTX 3070
NP you're welcome.
I can finally enjoy watching my movies after months of stuttering and I always thought something was up with my system. Until yesterday, I was so determined to try and find a fix for this so I played a lot with NCP until I found the VSync trick, VLC didn't have this problem but MPC is better in every way (accessibility, seeking/navigation, subtitles system, picture quality, etc..).
You can also thank the Admin, he's always helpful and fast with replying.

I am curious if disabling multiplane overlay also fixes the tearing.

Re: annoying stuttering during video playback with Ryzen 5900x + RTX 3070
I get the same tearing with multiplane overlay disabled.
BTW no tearing or stuttering at all with MPC Video Renderer regardless if VSync is on or off, it's just for MadVR if frames to present in advance set to 1 and VSync off.

Not sure if this deserves its own topic or if it was asked before (I can't seem to find any topic about it here) but: @Admin, do you know why navigation/seeking in any .TS file is so slow (regardless of the renderer)?

Re: annoying stuttering during video playback with Ryzen 5900x + RTX 3070
MPEG-TS container format does not contain an index table for seeking.
Use MkvToolNix to remux it into a .MKV file if you want fast seeking.

That did it. Thanks again.Admin wrote:...Use MkvToolNix to remux it into a .MKV file if you want fast seeking.
