Anyone else having lag/stutter while resizing a video window or switching to fullscreen & back to windowed?
Hi All
I recently formatted my machine. It's on latest windows update at the moment.
But now when using MPC HC my videos stutter when I try to go to fullscreen and switch back to normal. It also stutters when resizing a window.
It's actually my whole system that lags & freezes for like half a second during those events.
I reinstalled & rest all K-lite settings but didn't work.
I was wondering if anyone else has same issues at all? What can i do to fix it please?
Cheers

Hi all
I fixed it miself. What I did was change the video rendere from MPC HC to Enhanced video renderer.
Options -> Playback -> Output -> Video Renderer.
No more lag or freeze. Hope my solution works for others.
Also came to my attention that MPC HC is not being developed since 2017. Quite a bummer! Time to look for an alternative.

Development of MPC-HC is still very active, and latest version is included with K-Lite.
Which version of Windows do you use and which graphics card do you have?

Hey Admin
I saw this post so assumed it's not under development anymore.
https://mpc-hc.org/2017/07/16/1.7.13-released-and-farewell/
But good to know K-lite is still developing it. I won't be looking for an alternative anymore then. I love MPC-HC too much, can't think of switching to any other.
Here's the info you asked btw:
Windows version - Windows 10 Enterprise latest update
Graphics card - GTX 1060
I switched back to MPCHC video decoder and relaunched the video player and the lag came back. Then I captured the following log:
Hope it helps.
Cheers

Re: Anyone else having lag/stutter while resizing a video window or switching to fullscreen & back to windowed?
You also have an Intel GPU, and that one gets used by default by Windows.
You can change the preferred GPU in the Windows Settings, on Display settings page. There you can find ability to specify for individual programs which GPU they should use. Intel = integrated/battery saving, NVIDIA = high performance.
You should try if performance is better when using the NVIDIA GPU.
Does playback go back to normal after the short stutter?

Hi Admin
Yeah the playback is normal after the short stutter.
BTW Thanks for the suggestion. Changing GPU for both 32bit& 64bit MPC-HC players worked out well for the stutter issue.
But do you reckon it will consume more battery when my laptop is not plugged in?

Re: Anyone else having lag/stutter while resizing a video window or switching to fullscreen & back to windowed?
Yes, it might consume a little more energy.
What you also could try (with Intel as preferred) is the "use Direct3D 11" option in MPC Video Renderer settings. Maybe that will help to eliminate the stutters.
You can of course also just use EVR-CP as video renderer. That was the default one in the past. Benefit of MPC VR is that it should give a little bit better quality.

Legend! Ticking the Direct3D option worked out perfectly. Now I can use MPC HC decoder with my intel HD graphics card. Nice one.
