? instead of foreign subtitles
Hi. I tried playing a video whose language is both English and Korean. So the subtitle file has both:
The problem is that when playing I see ? instead of the proper foreign character.
I was thinking and that is most likely caused by the fact that the subtitle font doesn't have any Korean characters. Is it possible to have a separate font for Latin and a separate font for Korean/Chinese/... characters for one video with one subtitle file in order for the subtitles to display properly?
Because the way I think it works is that MPC-HC chooses its font by looking at what language the subtitle file is:
So if the subtitle file's language is English it's gonna choose the Latin font and if it's Korean it's going to choose the Hangul font. But is there a way to have both fonts, mixed?

Re: ? instead of foreign subtitles
Choosing fonts based on language is not possible, nor reliable since in your example it is English. However, certain fonts have a fallback to other fonts when it doesn't contain a character.
Try changing the font to "Calabri" here:
Options > Subtitles > Default Style
Let me know if that improves things. Then the default might get changed.

Re: ? instead of foreign subtitles
Well I tried it but it does not seem to help. Guess I'll just have to live with it.
But thanks for the quick answer! ;d
I think you can close the thread now

It may be complicate but it need font fallback for individual glyphs like browsers.
