Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
Hello there
Let me first tell you that i have a 32bit windows 10 pro, Intel core2duo, 4gb RAM, integrated Intel graphics, nearly about 10 years old dell PC and thanks to your codec pack my system was able to play every format except x265, H265 and 4k until version 15. 7. After using version 15.7 for sometime video started lagging a bit. Now usually i don't update codec pack until video starts lagging b'coz of shortage of time so when it started lagging i visited your page downloaded v 15.8 standard but this time lagging continued even after updating. Going through your website, googling, installing, uninstalling, clean install blah blah also did not solve my problem.
Anybody would automatically say upgrade your system but this answer would not solve the question what happened in this update that my stable system is unable to play videos while other players like vlc, splash, pot player can play it smoothly??
I gave it a thought and then decided to install mega pack and choose DXVA native instead of software decoding and did the same also since i cannot expect a graphics driver update for a 10 years old pc what i did was went to
- desktop
-right click-display properties-graphics-better performance for only media player classic
NOW THIS WORKED MAGICALLY DUNNO WHY BUT VIDEO LAGGING STOPPED HOWEVER THIS SETTING WAS UNABLE TO PLAY SUB RIP SUBTITLE MUXED WITHE VIDEO FILE WHILE IT WAS ABLE TO PLAY PGS SUBTITLES OF THE SAME FILE.
THEN I CHANGED INTERNAL SUBTITLE RENDERER TO DIRECT VOB SUB AND VOILA!! EVERYTHING GOT SOLVED.
NOW SORRY FOR MY LENGTHY TALK BUT IT WAS NECESSARY TO MENTION ALL THIS. MY QUESTION IS
1) WHAT DID YOU GUYS SCREWED in VERSION 15.8/ 15.8.2 or did i screwed it myself ?? As far as i know i have never played with default settings only chose software decoding due to my old PC because earlier other decoding methods were creating problem.
2) why video lagged even after updating whereas in the past every update solved it ??
3) why internal subtitle renderer failed to display subrip subtitles and mpc used to hang when i choose eng subrip subtitles from menu whereas it was perfectly playing pgs subtitles of the same file ??
Please note that in my case video used to lag slightly in every frame that caused me to update it.
Please fix this problem if you can bcoz no player works as smooth as mpc in my system.

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
The default video renderer was changed, and the new one has some issues on a small % of systems. Mostly older Intel ones. Hopefully you can help to run some tests to figure out what is wrong. Then either the bug in the new renderer can hopefully be fixed or otherwise the previous renderer will be used again on the affected systems.
First change back to the old defaults to confirm that solves the problems:
MPC options > Playback > Output
Select "Enhanced Video Renderer (Custom Presenter)" and the "Internal Subtitle Renderer".
If that works good then change the renderer to "MPC Video Renderer".
1) Play a file and press Ctrl+J. This displays some statistics on top of the video. Could you make a screenshot for me?
2) You mentioned the video was lagging. Does it already happen right at the start of the video, or does it begin at the moment the first subtitle is getting displayed?
3) You mentioned the player hangs when changing the subtitle. Does it also happen if you pause playback before changing?
Could you also test changing a few settings, to see if they have any positive (or negative) effect on playback? Test each setting mentioned below and tell me if you notice any difference in behavior. If there is no positive difference, change it back to previous value. After changing a setting, press Ctrl+E to quickly reload the video.
You can access the settings of MPC Video Renderer through the player menu: Play > Filters.
MPC Video Renderer settings to test:
4) Use Direct3D 11
5) Swap effect = Flip
6) DXVA2 video processor: disable "Use For Resizing"
7) DXVA2 video processor: disable NV12/P010/YUY2/Other Formats
Thanks!

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
settings:
1) DXVA native + mpc video renderer (use direct 3d 11) + internal audio renderer + internal subtitle renderer
RESULTS= without subtiltles video plays.
with subtitles video stops "not responding", player hangs even if i pause and load subtitles.
SDH pgs subtitles plays but subrip fails.
2)DXVA native + mpc video renderer (swap effect= flip) + internal audio renderer + internal subtitle renderer
RESULTS= without subtiltles video plays
with subtitles video stops "not responding", player hangs even if i pause and load subtitles.
SDH pgs subtitles plays but subrip fails.
3)DXVA native + mpc video renderer (DXVA2 video processor=use for resizing disabled) + internal audio renderer + internal subtitle renderer
RESULTS= without subtiltles video plays but lags quite a bit
with subtitles video stops "not responding", player hangs even if i pause and load subtitles.
SDH pgs subtitles plays but subrip fails.
4) DXVA native + mpc video renderer (DXVA2 video processor=NV12/P010/YUY2/Other Formats disabled) + internal audio renderer + internal subtitle renderer
RESULTS= without subtiltles video plays, lags are noticeable
with subtitles video stops "not responding", player hangs even if i pause and load subtitles.
SDH pgs subtitles plays but subrip fails.
5) All Combined i.e.
DXVA native + mpc video renderer (Direct 3D 11 enabled + swap effect= flip + DXVA2 video processor= use for resizing disabled, NV12/P010/YUY2/Other Formats disabled) + internal audio renderer + internal subtitle renderer
RESULTS= without subtiltles video plays, lags are noticeable
with subtitles video stops "not responding", player hangs even if i pause and load subtitles.
SDH pgs subtitles plays but subrip fails.
BACK TO ENHANCED VIDEO RENDERER (CUSTOM PRESENTER) + INTERNAL AUDIO RENDERER + INTERNAL SUBTITLE RENDERER
RESULTS= Video plays smoothly not butter smooth but yeah smooth and no problems with subtitles.
Here is the screenshot
However if i move seekbar from one timeframe to another the skip is not clean as it flashes some image of the previous time frame or current time frame for like an instant and then plays the video. Earlier these skips were clean like scene of julia roberts on 26:10 to scene of richard gere on 30:10, no flashing of an image of julia or richard if you can understand what i mean.
NOTE : I performed all these task by setting graphics card settings to system default not on high performance.
NOW ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS:
1)Here is the screenshot
2)Well not all video lags but most videos specifically 1080p lags a bit right from the starting even if i does not play subtitle. earlier there were no problems
3) yes it hangs even if i pause the video and choose the subtitles I have already mentioned that above.
I wanted some advice regarding whether i should revert back to standard edition and choose software decoding ?? will this solve any problem ?? should I stick with the present one i.e. mega+dxva native ??

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
There is no difference in playback between Standard and Mega version. They use the same components.
You can disable DXVA in the settings of LAV Video Decoder. It is a good idea to test if software decoding works better.
The video in your screenshot is 50 frames per second. Your screen is 60Hz. So it will never play super smoothly because each frame is shown on average 1.2x, meaning most frames are shown 1 time, and once every 5 frames there is a repeat. But that of course mostly is visible as smoothness of motion, it should not have lags under normal circumstances.
Could you also test version 15.7.0 of the pack? Change renderer to MPC VR (with default settings). It is useful to know if that already has the same issue with the subtitle loading.

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
Do you mean high performance in the Intel graphics settings? That could help a bit.
If you means choice between "Battery Saving" and "High Performance" in Windows 10 display settings, then it probably won't have any effect. That setting is for when your computer has two GPUs.
Regarding your comment on the seeking behavior. There was a small change in the player in 15.8.2 in that aspect. But I don't notice any problems like you describe. Are you clicking on the seekbar, or dragging it?

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
yes high performance in intel graphic settings.
No i never drag seek bar. I always click it like if the movie is starting and I have to watch the middle part I click in the middle of the seekbar.
The seeking problem that I mentioned above only happens when I choose enhanced video renderer (custom presenter) and dxva native.
It does not happen with enhanced video renderer (custom presenter) + software decoding.
so if nothing works I am going to stick to this setting !!

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
Did a clean install of version 15.7 mega
reverted to software decoding
RESULTS:
video plays with subtitles, no problems at all even if i choose dxva native or any other.
when I choose mpc video renderer video plays but as soon as i select subtitles video stops audio continues for a minute and then it stops and mpc hangs "not responding" msg appears. I have to close it from task manager.
this happens no matter what i do or choose(higher graphic performance settings, dxva native, dxva copy back etc). screenshot is below
The surprising part is that it only happens if i choose the english subrip and SDH english subrip subtitles. But it is playing english SDH PGS subtitles of the same file.
Below are some screenshots of mpc video renderer and pgs subtitles
Below is the screenshot of mpc video renderer without subtitles and video playing
Below are screenshots of enhanced video renderer custom presenter with eng subrip subtitle and pgs subtitles

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
Thanks for testing. I will try to hunt down this bug.
Meanwhile just use EVR-CP as renderer.

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
Thanks for your suggestions !! lastly can you please tell me if installing windows 10 64 bit will solve any video related problems or will be helpful in this regard ??

Re: Video lagging in 15.8/15.8.2 | unable to display subrip subtitles
64-bit will not make a difference.
I have been able to reproduce the problem on an old laptop that has same GPU as you have. So that is a small step towards solving the problem. I will analyze it further in the coming week.

The freeze should be fixed in 15.8.4

Nearly one week of testing
Result: Everything is fixed now
Thanks for the support ~~ Cheers !!
