Hi,
this is not related to the codec pack but I'm asking here since you have a lot of the experience with file formats setup in registry.

Do you know if there a way to enable image preview in explorer for additional extensions?

For example how enable the png preview also with files named "image.png2"?

Look at:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.png\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\ShellImagePreview
