No video in Picasa and XnView
Because I had no video in Picasa and XnView I reinstalled K-Lite codec pack, and got response from K-Lite support team with hint on http://codecguide.com/faq_display_issues.htm#item11
Many thanks for the tip to the support team !
I tried everything from the tip and want to share the results as it may help other users.
My system:
Win10-64-pro 1909
Shuttle_SZ77R5
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 (driver "451.67-desktop-win10-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe")
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Possible solution 1:
Both monitors had been connected to GeForce, no video on both. I than set video option from Auto to IGXF in BIOS, and connected my secondary monitor to the onboard Intel graphic card, and in this configuration I really see video on my secondary monitor.
Since the onboard GPU does not support the high resolution of my primary monitor (2560x1440), it must be connected to the GeForce, so I still don't have video on the primary monitor.
Possible solution 2:
Does not work form me, I see both possible options "NVIDIA GeForce GT 730" (nothing from Intel).
Possible solution 3:
Update to "451.67-desktop-win10-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe" did not solve the problem.
Workaround 1:
Works for me: Play and stop video with XnView, then the videos are shown in Picasa.
Workaround 2:
Not possible for me.
Workaround 3:
Works for me, but the picture looks a bit unsharp, so I don't want to use this setting.
Many thanks for the tip to the support team !

Re: No video in Picasa and XnView
Hi there,
Same problem here ; no video in PICASA anymore since recent K_Lite update .
I mean, no video at all, whatever the format ! Audio is OK though.
Also, uninstalling K-Lite doesn't help, nor reinstalling PICASA !! As if something has been corrupted in Windows itself !?
Tried with other applications (irfanview a.o.) without problem !
Suggestions welcome
Thanks

Re: No video in Picasa and XnView
Nothing is broken in Windows. It is because of compatibility issue between the graphics driver and Windows.
Does it work in a second instance?

Re: No video in Picasa and XnView
Recent versions of Irfanview have an updated playback engine, so this problem no longer occurs like it did with older versions of Irfanview.
Are you really sure it worked before the K-Lite update? I mean that it for example still worked a week before. And that nothing else was updated (like the driver) during that time?
Try this:
Codec Tweak Tool > Fixes > Re-register base DirectShow filters

Absolutely sure ! I used it for years !
As far as I know, nothing was changed in between. I observed the problem immediately after the update ! Also what surpises me is that I can't go back even though I uninstalled K-Lite and re-installed Picasa.
Also I tried the fix without success .
Thank you again.

Re: No video in Picasa and XnView
Does the red icon for LAV Video Decoder appear in the system tray during playback?
Test if you get image when disabling hardware acceleration in the video decoder settings.

Re: No video in Picasa and XnView
Also, even .wmv files do not play anymore, for which LAV splitter & decoder are not invoked (?)
A.O. This is why I suspect a Windows property has been altered

Re: No video in Picasa and XnView
If you read the FAQ you see that this is a compatibility issue with NVIDIA driver and Windows 10, where it no longer supports some functionality that the legacy video renderer from Windows uses when invoked by basic applications such as Picasa.
Since your have both Intel and NVIDIA GPU, I suspect that Picasa was previously using your Intel one, and that you set your NVIDIA GPU as default in Windows, which broke playback in Picasa.
Open Windows Settings, go to Display, then Advanced settings. There you can configure which GPU each application should use. Add Picasa and XnView, and select the "power-saving" GPU for them.

So,
I only have a NVIDIA GPU on this machine (AMD R7 cpu).
Looking at the Windows graphic settings, I observed that the "HW accelerated GPU scheduling" parameter was set OFF !!
Set it ON again, restarted Windows and it works OK again, now !
I guess this parameter had been altered somehow ??
Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. It finally paid !

Re: No video in Picasa and XnView
Interesting. This is the first time I hear that this setting has any effect on video playback.
The codec pack does not touch such driver settings.
