K-Lite update check interrupts activity on PC.
Hi all.
I have the K-Lite Codec Pack updater set to check for updates every month. The problem is that the update checker has been given far too much priority on my PC. If the update checker spots that a new version of the K-Lite pack is available, it steals focus, and interrupts whatever I am doing to display a message box. This is very ill-mannered and can be extremely inconvenient.
For example, the other day I was engaged in a very enjoyable on-line driving session in Euro Truck Simulator 2, with a number of friends across the world. We had been driving for over two hours together across Europe, and suddenly the K-Lite updater simply stole focus, minimised my Euro Truck Sim 2 screen, and displayed a version notification message in front of my Windows desktop. As you may realise, on-line sessions of most games cannot be paused, as they are real-time. The effect of the interruption was to crash my truck, destroy the cargo I was carrying, and lose two hours of progress! I would like to tell you some of the remarks that I used at the time to demonstrate my frustration, but I'm sure that the moderators would not tolerate such interesting language on this forum, and my (brand-new) account would be suspended!
So I would like to give some advice to the people who create and distribute the K-Lite Codec Pack:
When a new version of your Codec pack is released, it is not a life-threatening emergency which demands that you stop the entire world to take notice of you. It is simply a useful piece of information which you can relay to people with an ordinary notification which does NOT steal focus and shut down other applications. I'm sure I can wait until I've finished what I'm doing so I can read your message in my normal, non-invasive, well-mannered notification area.
I look forward to you releasing a less invasive update checker soon. Thanks.
(Edit: FYI I have checked my Windows settings to see if there's anything I can change to prevent this happening, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything I can do. The Windows 'Focus Assist' feature is supposed to help prioritise things like this, but stupidly it's not compatible with a large number of the apps and games that I use, so I have to keep it switched off.)

Re: K-Lite update check interrupts activity on PC.
You could try this:
Windows Task Scheduler > klcp_update > Properties > Conditions > Enable the idle setting
Windows Task Scheduler > klcp_update > Properties > Conditions > Enable the idle setting
