HVC1 4k 10bit video - pale colours on TV@HDMI
Hello,
I have weird colour problem with mkv file:
Video: HVC1 3840x2160 23.976fps (hevc main 10 L5.1, yuv420p10le, 3840x2160)
I have 2 displays connected to my gpu:
GPU: Geforce 1070ti
Display 1: Dell U2413 1920x1080@60Hz 10bit RGB/Full connected via Display Port 1.2
Display 2: LG OLED55C9 3840x2160@60Hz 8bit RGB/Full connected via HDMI 2.0
On display 1 Video looks normal, colours are deep/natural, but when i drag video to display 2 it's pale/washed. It's not screen settings - when video is dragged it looks ok on second screen, but when whole window is in second screen, and player reloads frame - colours changes, the same when video is dragged from display 2 to display 1 - colours are inncorect until whole MPC-HC window is dragged to display 1.
The difference can be seen even on screenshoted video (those 2 screenshots are the exact same frame):
I have tried to switch OLED TV resolution to YCbCr422/10bit, YCbCr420/10bit, 1920x1080@60Hz 12bit, 3840x2160@30Hz 10bit but it doesn't change a thing.
I'm using Windows 10, already tried to reinstall to latest K-Lite Codec Pack 15.5.0 (mega, lots of everything without changing anything), tried different direct show filters - madVR is ok on display 1, while pale on display 2, EVR custom presenter is pale on both displays.
At the moment I'm out of ideas, and I'm politely asking for help, thanks in advance!
I have tried searching through forums but I did not found solution to my problem, a bit similar problem is here - https://codecs.forumotion.net/t1910-colour-issue?highlight=washed+colour

Re: HVC1 4k 10bit video - pale colours on TV@HDMI
Your monitor does not support HDR, so madVR will apply tonemapping. In case of your TV madVR will passthough the HDR metadata to the TV, so that the TV can do the HDR tonemapping. But it seems that the TV is not switching into HDR mode. That might be due to a bug in the NVIDIA driver. Maybe it does work when switching to fullscreen (F11).
You can tell madVR to do the tonemapping also when using the TV:
madVR settings > devices > HDR > tone map HDR using pixel shaders

Re: HVC1 4k 10bit video - pale colours on TV@HDMI
Switching to full screen didn't help (tried it before already, gave it one more try, but still no luck), but changing HDR tonemapping option to using pixel shader did a thing! Thank you very much for your help.
After all I have one more question - which tone mapping curve should I choose? (BT.2930 ?) And what number should I put in target peak nits?

Re: HVC1 4k 10bit video - pale colours on TV@HDMI
Default curve should be fine. The nits value depends on the brightness of your screen. If you think the video is currently too dark, then lower the value a bit. Just try some values and see what looks best. Your PC monitor probably needs a lower value than your TV.

Ok, thank you very much for helping me with this problem, at last now it's time to enjoy the video .
