Chinese characters in attempted login from MPC-HC (64-bit) Windows 10

I just opened an MP4 file on Onedrive (MS Cloud) and after downloading the file the application brought up an error message saying
"Failed to login on "[chinese characters]" with username "[more chinese characters]". Please enter the correct username and password or reset the credentials to log in as anonymous user.

WTF? Apart from the fact I wasn't logging into anything whats the program apparently trying to login to or is it related to MS Cloud?

The forums link to even participate here was classified as junk mail by Outlook.

Is this whole suite of programs yet more chinese spyware?

That error comes from the subtitle search function. It is supposed to say "OpenSubtitles", but it is displayed with wrong text.

Update to the latest version and the error will be gone. Read the changelog if you want to use the subtitle search functionality.
