I'm compressing my own fullHD 30fps clips to HEVC 10bit, preset medium, FastDecode using Vdub2 but can't have smooth playback on full screen. Using VLC playback is fine. Have an I5-4460 under win7 x64. Selecting Overlay Mixing Renderer things improve, but still have drop frames. Ideas?

What is the CPU usage during playback in both VLC and MPC-HC?

The integrated GPU in your system only support partial hardware acceleration of HEVC video. If you currently have hardware decoding enabled, then try with it disabled. You can find this setting here:
MPC-HC menu > Play > Filters > LAV Video Decoder
