Spdif & 7.1
Nvidia 1030 hooked up via HMDI to older tv, with Spdif out going into a soundbar. On windows 10.
As of right now everything is working fine. I have followed instructions on the forum for getting AAC 5.1 to bitstream using ffdshow to encode the audio, LAv is bitatreaming everything else. All is good
My question is what do I do with Atmos, truehd, dts-hd and all 7.1 audio tracks?
As of right now, LAv decodes it to two channel PCM which does give me sound. If I tell ffdshow to take over truehd, it doesn't spit out any sound at all and mpc doesn't play the video at all. Is there a better way or another option to encode this sound to 5.1 so I can bitstream over spdif? Or is this just asking to much?
Just to be clear, my bottleneck is the TV using SPDIF. That's the only way my setup works, I cannot go directly into the soundbar via HDMI.

Re: Spdif & 7.1
You can find more detailed instructions in the FAQ.
ffdshow and ac3filter do not support TrueHD with Atmos layer. So your only option is to use LAV Audio Decoder.
Assuming your are using MPC-HC, you should do the following:
1) Use LAV for decoding everything
2) Select the option in the installer to use ffdshow audio processor (not the decoder). This will then process the output from LAV (except for stuff that is already bitstreamed)
3) In ffdshow audio processor settings, enable Resample to 48000Hz, Mix to 5.1, and AC3 output.
7.1 is not possible. SPDIF only goes up to 5.1.
If you use a different player, then select the option in the installer to use ffdshow decoder (or ac3filter) only for "uncompressed audio (PCM)" and nothing else.

Thank you so much for your reply. This is the most active forum I have ever been a part of, and truly appreciate your fast and detailed responses
So that's the difference between ffdshow processor and decoder! Processor does everything after LAv and decoder replaces LAv, am I understanding this correctly?
Also I understand I'm not gonna get 7.1 out of spdif I'm sorry I should have clarified I was trying to understand how to Encode or down sample 7.1 to 5.1 to bitstream through spdif.
I currently have BOTH ffdshow decoder and processor to mix 5.1 resample 48k and encode AC3 with bitstream Dolby Digital on. I do have decoder set to do AAC, is that okay to do while processor does PCM?

Re: Spdif & 7.1
That is ok, but you can also disable AAC in ffdshow audio decoder settings and let LAV take over.
You should also disable the Mixer in LAV Audio Decoder settings, so that ffdshow processor does all the channel mixing.
