Optimized profile for Media Player Classic - what is the difference?
There are two places to get Media Player Classic, one is from the original website for the player, the second is from Codec Guide as part of their codecs installations.
Codec Guide states they offer an "optimized profile for Media Player Classic", with their installs and updates.
Currently, I have chosen to stay with the original player install from the original developer/site, opting out for the "optimized profile for Media Player Classic", but now I wonder what is the difference between Codec's optimized version and the original one?
I looked on the Codec's website trying to find some explanation as to what "optimized Classic Media Player" means so I can compare the two versions, but there was no information on the Codec site and there was no information found here in the forum either.
(Note: for searching this forum, the standard enclosing of a phrase in quotes does not search for the entire phrase, instead it gives results based on single keywords taken from the phrase, which really did not help.)
So I ask these two questions;
Thanks

- What is the difference between the Classic Media Player (original version) and the Codec's "optimized profile for Media Player Classic" version?
- If I keep the original Classic Media Player, will the Codec installs still support the codec's required & used by the original classic player?
Thanks

Re: Optimized profile for Media Player Classic - what is the difference?
The "optimized profile" refers to settings for NVIDIA graphics driver, and are applicable to all versions of the player.

The benefits of installing MPC as part of K-Lite:
1) More frequent updates of both the player and the codecs that it uses
2) The codecs have been enhanced to support a few more audio and video formats
3) The installer takes care of configuring several things, such as hardware acceleration and preferred languages for audio and subtitles.
4) The installer takes care of creating file associations for the player.
There are no benefits to installing MPC manually. K-Lite is basically just a more advanced installer for MPC with some extra functionality included.

I gathered that would be the case if I was asking about the MPC K-Lite version benefits in question #2 , but...knowing that even the standard Windows Media Player benefits from the K-Lite codecs, then in that same context, allow me to rephrase question #2:
"If I kept the manual (original) MPC installed, would the K-Lite codecs, even some of them, apply to it - or would the manual MPC not use any of the K-lite Codecs?
Thanks

Re: Optimized profile for Media Player Classic - what is the difference?
It would use the K-Lite codecs only in rare cases. It will use its internal copy of LAV Filters most of the time (assuming default settings).
Is there a specific reason why you want to keep it installed?

Re: Optimized profile for Media Player Classic - what is the difference?
Nice, that is the information I was looking for, thanks.
Never removed it, and bypassed the included MPC during the Codec installs because I already had it, thinking (then) that there was no difference... until now.
Next update, I will make the switch.
Thanks for the help.
(PS: the developer would benefit from a much better description on his Codec website for MPC, explaining the differences and why the included one would be better).
