Settings for other DirectShow applications? Empty Settings for other DirectShow applications?

Post by AdamSwine Tue Nov 26, 2019 9:45 am

hello. this is a configuration point during the installation. some times when install K-Lite, i notice this can't be configured while other times it can.

another thing... when i am unable to configure this, it also prevents me from using the Audio Setup option in the tweak tool. plus some other configuration options in the tweak tool are disabled.

exactly how i get to be able configure this in the installation without any problems? what prevents me from doing this?

anyone?

When you enable the option in the installer to "install codecs only for MPC-HC" then you will have less configuration options.

The audio options should still be available. I will need to check and possibly fix that.

hello. i was able to confirm that the installer does indeed react that way. however... i ALWAYS enable install codecs only for MPC. in fact... when confirming this just now, i was revisited with the option to select file extensions for both MPC and WMP. i haven't seen that part of the installation configuration provide a selection of extensions for WMP in years due to always selecting install only for MPC. hell... i forgot that that part was ever even there. lmao

in the end, i find it better to install for MPC only for compatibility reasons. some games don't use packed resources and LAV will run on the audio. sometimes this generates a multitude of LAV icons. i know the icon can be disabled, but still don't want LAV to handle game audio.

well... i just installed and only for MPC. you can see in the image below the option for Audio output is grayed out. not really an issue, because can just configure through LAV. unless the codec tweak tool does something else with the option that i don't know about.

Yes, the CTT is just another way to configure the audio settings of LAV. I will make sure that issue gets fixed.

LAV has a blacklisting feature that can be used to prevent it from being used by incompatible apps and games. So if you ever encounter an issue just let me know the name of the game (and its main .exe) and I can add it to the blacklist.

awesome! thank you tons. Smile

at any rate, i will just continue using the install for MPC only. and don't recall the name of any games from years ago that had the issue.

but yeah... there seems to be some kind of bug during installation, though. as previously mentioned... i always select install for MPC only.

when first loading the installer, the selection for preferred audio player is always completely blank. i always select WMP, but also always select install codec only for MPC-HC. i didn't know the 'only for MPC' option skips configuring extensions for WMP during install, and always wondered why the extension part of the installation never asked me about what to set for WMP. this is the first i have seen it in years, and am 100% certain about that.

so... despite selecting 'only for MPC', sometimes the installation still allows me to configure "Settings for other DirectShow applications". i think this is placebo, because of being unable to remember the last time i seen a dozen splitter and audio LAV icons in the system tray. LOL

i have just now tried uninstalling and re-install a half-dozen times to no avail. trying out different selections on the very first pages. only thing i noticed different is that if you select 'only for MPC' first, then select a preferred audio player that the option is automatically disabled. which is what prompted me to attempt several re-installs. i thought maybe the bug was caused due to the order of things being selected, but am not getting results. well, in the end i have no clue how to reproduce this.

however, if there is anything i can do to help... let me know! ^_^

It is intentional that the preferred audio player is blank by default. Many people use different players for audio and video, so by default the pack won't interfere with the audio player that you are currently using. Meaning that it will only create file associations for audio formats that don't have a default player yet.

When the codecs are only installed for MPC, then WMP will not be able to play any additional formats, so it makes sense to skip file associations for that.

I will do some tests to see if any irrelevant options get shown.
