Firefox Youtube 8K hardware acceleration
Hi,
is there any way to play 4k or 8k youtube vídeos on firefox in windows 7 with hardware acceleration? I know that win10 can play it smoothly (HW acceleration) because the vp9 Media foundation filters or codecs.
Best regards

Re: Firefox Youtube 8K hardware acceleration
I don't think that 8k is supported on Win7. But 4k should work, provided that you have a GPU that can do VP9 hardware acceleration. Firefox uses an internal codec for VP9.
Re: Firefox Youtube 8K hardware acceleration
4k work in firefox under win7 but only uses CPU and plays not smoothly, no GPU acceleration. This is the problem. 8K videos (downloaded in youtube) in Media Player Classic plays perfectly in my Win7SP1 + GTX1050ti (because MPC uses Hardware GPU acceleration codecs). Firefox (and chrome and iexplorer) uses the internal windows 7 codecs I think and can't configure the browsers to use external third party codec as MPC. Win10 uses the internal media foundation filters that can play vp9 codec via hardware.

Yes, after checking it requires Windows 10 for VP9 hardware acceleration. You can't change which codecs it uses.
