I Can't Install K-Lite Codec Pack!!!

Halp!!!

I've downloaded it from this site, the latest Full version. I'm running Windows 10 with the latest updates.

But when I run the exe file Windows Defender pops up and tells me it's untrusted. So I've pressed whatever it was needed pressing to continue installing (sorry, can't remember what it said now!) and I get a message from Windows Defender saying 'This app can't run on your PC' and 'To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher'.

Anyone got any ideas please? Many thanks in advance for any help!

Weird. Try right-clicking on the installer and "run as administrator".

That was the first thing I tried yesterday and no joy. I've also tried running it in Windows 8 Compatibility Mode. Still says the same thing. This is doing my head in lol

Maybe try redownloading. Maybe file is incomplete.

Correct filename is K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1498_Full.exe with size of 46.3 MB.

Also tried that too! And a full virus check with Malwarebytes and Zone Alarm antivirus.

And a fresh install of Windows 10 too!

Maybe I should just try a different codec pack? What's the next best one after K-Lite?

It should just work. Which version of Windows 10 are you using? The "S" version of Windows 10 only allows installing stuff from the Windows store. But I assume you are using a regular version.

Yup, Windows 10 Pro.

And older version like 14.9.4 also same problem?

I really want to know why this is happening. There have been thousands of successful installs for latest version today on Win10.

The installer creates a log file in your %TEMP% folder named "Setup Log 2019-06-04 #001.txt". Check if that exists. If not it means Windows is blocking it from starting.

How much RAM memory does your computer have? A low amount might possibly trigger this error.

Try downloading the file using a different browser. Found a similar issue for another product where a few people had corrupted files when downloaded with Chrome:

Brilliant, thanks for the advice on using a different browser, I solved the problem by using Microsoft Edge! So now that browser has two uses: downloading Chrome and downloading K-Lite lol

Lots of people use Chrome, so it must be some rare bug.

Microsoft is replacing Edge with a Chromium based browser in the future. Hopefully that doesn't have the same bug
