Video in Ableton Live 10.0.6 not working | Win 10 (x64)

Hey,

I am completely unable to work with video in Ableton Live's latest version (10.0.6).

I'm running Windows 10 64-bit build 17 134 and using an Nvidia GeForce GT 750M graphics card.

Depending on various settings, trying to import video into Live will either not work (file cannot be dropped on a new track as usual, video window greyed out) or crash the program immediately or on playback.

I've been trying to fix this problem now for many months. Things worked fine before that, in Live 9 and briefly in Live 10.

I've had extensive contact with Ableton support and have tried:

• Running Live as an administrator.
  
• Running Live with the integrated graphics processor.
  
• Running Live with Nvidia's graphics processor.
  
• Converting video files to many different formats, resolutions and settings before importing them.
  
• Changing settings in codecs.
  
• Uninstalling all codecs and trying different codecs and demuxers (CCCP, Matroska Splitter/Haali Media Splitter, ffdshow, K-Lite.
  
• Uninstalling and reinstalling video card driver.
  
• Rolling back Live to an older version (10.0.1), this fixed the issue for a while until it stopped working there too.
  
• Uninstalling and reinstalling Live.
  
• Uninstalling and reinstalling Windows 10 in factory settings.
  
• Contacting a pc expert to inform about replacing my video card with a newer model, which unfortunately is not possible in a laptop.
  

Nothing has worked.

I'm at the end of my rope here. I am a professional music composer and sound designer for the moving image, and cannot work without video support. I've been using workarounds for many months now, but they cost valuable time and cause frustration.

Any help or advice? I'm happy to give more info or run tests if needed.

If Ableton crashes it is something they need to fix.

It creates a crash dump in %appdata%\Ableton folder. Contact Ableton and send them the crash dump files. That should help them fix the bugs in their software.

I failed to mention in my OP that I already have sent them numerous of these crash reports in the past.

I'll get back at them and inform them that I can rule out this has anything to do with the codec.

You can test video playback with the GraphStudioNext tool that is included with K-Lite. That tool acts in same way as a standard DirectShow player. So if playback works there, you know the codecs are working correctly.
