Audio skips on DVD playback with KLCP 14.0.8 Update
I am guessing this is where one would post a possible issue with K-Lite Codec Pack?
After installing KLPC's 14.0.8 Update, Media Player Classic Home Cinema does not playback the audio in DVD Video properly. The audio plays with skips and pops. Regressing back to 14.0.5 resolves this problem for me. So, I have to wonder if it's something in the 14.0.8 Update that is causing this problem. I'm playing back a VIDEO_TS folder from HDD by loading the VIDEO_TS.IFO file.
I've experienced no audio problems with FLAC and MP4 video containers. Just on DVD Video playback.
Thanks!

Are you bitstreaming to a receiver? If so, does decoding on PC work?
Please test 14.0.7 as well:

No, I'm not streaming the DVD.
I forgot about 14.0.7. I had it, but 14.0.8 came out just before I was about to install it. I still have 14.0.7 so I'll try that out.

Re: Audio skips on DVD playback with KLCP 14.0.8 Update
I updated 14.0.5 to 14.0.7 and tested it again. There were no DVD Video audio playback issues in MPC-HC with 14.0.7. So, it does seem to be something in 14.0.8 Update.
To see if I can isolate it to an issue in just MPC-HC, I'm going to try updating 14.0.7 to 14.0.8 but NOT select the MPC-HC update. IF there's a DVD playback issue still present, then it's not a "bug" in MPC-HC. If there isn't, then I'll rerun the 14.0.8 update and select MPC-HC to update. IF there's a playback issue after that, then it seems there is a "bug" in MPC-HC.

Re: Audio skips on DVD playback with KLCP 14.0.8 Update
I isolated the problem. I initially thought it was MPC-HC, but after carefully evaluating what 14.0.8 Update updates, I thought it may be the LAV filters, since they load when MPC-HC plays a DVD Video. So, I updated everything but the LAV filters and the problem wasn't there. Then, I updated the LAV filters and the problem WAS present.
So, the actual issue is with the LAV Filters [version 0.71-25-g7e5ab] that 14.0.8 Update updates.

Thanks for testing. Could you create a sample file for me? The few DVDs I have here don't have an issue.
You can cut a 10MB sample from one of the big .vob files with this little tool:
http://rationalqm.us/dgsplit/dgsplit12.zip
Then upload to http://www.sendspace.com or a similar site.

Re: Audio skips on DVD playback with KLCP 14.0.8 Update
Here's the weird thing. After updating to 14.0.8 to test it again, I did some more testing to further isolate whether it was the .IFO or the .VOB that was causing the problem.
I discovered the DVD skipping is ONLY when VIDEO_TS.IFO file is loaded. IF you play the .VOB in MPC-HC, there is no audio skipping. But, if you play VIDEO_TS.IFO to play the VTS_01_1.VOB in MPC-HC, it skips. If you open VTS_01_0.IFO, it DOESN'T play with skips. ONLY when VIDEO_TS.IFO is loaded. It's weird, but I can only report the results I'm getting.
I isolated the opening title sequence where this occurs in a test DVD. The total VIDEO_TS is like under 9 MB. I've put this VIDEO_TS on my OneDrive account. Be sure to test both the VIDEO_TS.IFO, VTS_01_0.IFO, and VTS_01_1.VOB files to see if you see a difference like I do. Also, the problem only shows up until about half way into playing the VOB, around the 5 second mark.

Further discovered information just before posting this. The issue is only on this one DVD set I've encountered it on so far. I decided to test another DVD and there was no playback issue. So, it's only on this one DVD set. But, it happens on both the company logo and the first episode of the internal contents. It does this on Discs 1 and 2 of 3, so I'm guessing it's across all these discs. And maybe on all 11 seasons of the TV series discs these came from released by Columbia/Sony.
So, I don't know if you want to investigate if it's just for this one set, but I've upped the test files, if you want to.

Re: Audio skips on DVD playback with KLCP 14.0.8 Update
It sure is odd, isn't it? I'm no DVD/codec expert by any means, but why would the VOB play fine, the VTS .IFO for the VOB play fine, but when played through VIDEO_TS.IFO only, it doesn't? It baffles me.

Good news. It has been fixed. Will be included in next update.
Re: Audio skips on DVD playback with KLCP 14.0.8 Update
If you don't mind my being nosy what exactly was the issue? Why did it only affect that one DVD release and why only when VIDEO_TS.IFO was loaded? I would have thought such a problem would be in the playback of the VOB. Not which .IFO file loaded it.
It was sheer luck I found that issue. I rarely have my audio unmuted, but I did at that point to test something else and loaded that particular DVD after updating to 14.0.8. So, I tested 14.0.5 and found it was still working in that older release. I just happened to pick that one particular DVD at one particular point where I normally don't have my audio muted right after performing the update in issue. Maybe a one in a million chance?

Re: Audio skips on DVD playback with KLCP 14.0.8 Update
I don't have full knowledge of the technical details. A different source filter is used in case of .ifo and that packetizes the data differently. The decoder parsed it wrong in this specific case.
Re: Audio skips on DVD playback with KLCP 14.0.8 Update
Actually, that probably tells me all I need to know and what I'll understand. I didn't know there were different processes for .IFO versus playing a VOB directly. But, since there are, it makes "sense" that one process might have a bug in it when the other doesn't.
Thanks!
Glad I could help. As I said, it was a once in a blue moon, probably, catch.

Yes, pure luck. Thank you for the excellent report.

Thanks for the compliment. I pride myself of taking a logical approach to things in life. I've been using computers since 1984. I majored in computer science in college. I've been beta testing ImgBurn for 13 years. So, I know a thing or two about debugging.

I can confirm that this issue was resolved in the 14.1.0 release of KLCP. Thanks!
