E-AC-3 plays as stereo
I'm a new user of MPC. I discovered that E-AC-3 audio instead of 5.1 is played stereo. My AV receiver recognize the signal in stereo. The same file produces 5.1 output in other players (Windows Media Player, GOM player). I'm using default settings on MPC. AC-3 files playing good, 5.1, only E-AC-3 files don't. Any suggestions?

Use FFdshow Audio and check the decode 5.1 in output. Also in codecs put AC3 and E-AC3 on libavcodec and remove those two from LAV Audio decoder and you should be set.

Codec Tweak Tool > Audio Output > Enable bitstreaming
That should be enough if you use HDMI and your receiver supports E-AC3.

Thanks for the advice. But, I found this suggestion earlier on this forum but does not helped im my case. I use SPDIF output and the E-AC3, DTS-HD and TrueHD are grayed out in bitstreaming settings.. Then I switched to HDMI, checked bitstreaming for E-AC3 and tried again but E-AC3 still plays stereo (and the same file plays 5.1 in Windows media player). I have a GeForce GT640 graphic card, latest Nvidia and Realtec sound card drivers, Windows 10 latest edition and an Onkyo TX-NR807 AV receiver. I think all of this supports E-AC3. Any other advice?

Re: E-AC-3 plays as stereo
As I said go to LAV Audio remove E-AC3 and AC3 at "formats" then open FFDshow Audio Decoder both x86 and x64 and at "codecs" put E-AC3 and AC3 from disabled to "libavcodec" and on both go to "output" enable "Dolby Digital (AC3)" and "Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3_" and on the right enable "AC3 (SPdif encode mode) and Enable "encode 5.1 streams only" do all of these on both x86 and x64 . You should have 5.1 now.

Re: E-AC-3 plays as stereo
SPDIF does not support E-AC3. It has limited bandwidth and only supports AC3, DTS, and 2.0 PCM. What does your receiver indicate when you play with WMP? Dolby digital (= AC3) or Dolby Digital Plus (= E-AC3)? It might be transcoding the audio to AC3.
HDMI should obviously only be selected if you use an actual HDMI cable to connect your PC and receiver. HDMI supports more formats and up to 7.1 PCM.
ffdshow and AC3Filter both offer the ability to convert audio to AC3 for bitstreaming. AC3Filter is a bit easier to configure. Simply select it in the installer as the desired decoder.

Done. Definitely switched to HDMI for movies (for Foobar2000 and FLAC still on SPDIF). I installed the Mega version od KL codec pack, selected ffdshow for E-AC3 and now works fine. E-AC3 files are recognized as Dolby D+ on my receiver. Thank you!

Re: E-AC-3 plays as stereo
There is a bug in the Codec Tweak Tool that doesn't apply the correct setting for LAV Audio in some cases. So bitstreaming did not actually get enabled. That will be fixed in next version.
