Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
As title says I need help with configuring the codec especially for MADVR, from default setting what setting should I change for high quality anime since Kawaii codec pack(KCP) is pretty much outdated. And also for K-lite codec pack should I change any setting like (1) should I use 64-bit instead of 32-bit (2) Should I use DXVA or DXVA native or anything better (3)Etc. Any help would be much appreciated
My PC hardware configuration:-
CPU:-i7-7700k
GPU:-GTX 1080
WINDOWS:- Windows 10-64bit home edition

For hardware acceleration you should select DXVA2 copy-back.
In Madvr use these settings:
* shroma upscaling > Jinc + anti-ringing
* image-upscaling > NGU Anti-Alias (high quality)
If your videos are usually of very good quality, then you could also try NGU Sharp.
* image downscaling > SSIM 1D
* processing > artifact removal > reduce banding artifacts > low (2x)
* rendering > smooth motion > enable

Thank you for this guide and it's really helpful, just some questions though, for reduce banding artifacts > low(2x) I assume I must go for low for both options, and for rendering smooth motion I must enable it without changing any option below it or should I change it to always or something? and SSIM 1D is 100% I guess. Thanks again for this because the codec setting running my videos without any problem just want the confirmation about that last 3 questions xD.

Yes, low for both debanding. You can increase to medium if you still see banding on some videos. But usually low is enough.
For smooth motion also just enable.
If you press Ctrl+J then you can see the rendertime during playback. This value should stay below the frame duration. For example with 24 fps video, it should be lower than 1000ms / 24 fps = 41ms.
For smooth motion also just enable.

Perfect, it works like a charm like I used to be watching anime with KCP but now even better with updated Madvr lolAdmin wrote:Yes, low for both debanding. You can increase to medium if you still see banding on some videos. But usually low is enough.

Yes, this should be much better than the highest preset of KCP.

Would you recommend these settings for any high end system? I had just been using Jinc for everything until now.

Yes, NGU is better than Jinc.

Hi again Admin,
Recently I just found this option called "activate super res filter" under chroma upscaling, so i'm curious about it whether should I check it or not if I use Nvidia DSR option(X4.00 3840x2160) with 1080p monitor for my desktop resolution to watch anime. Looking for your reply soon, thanks in advance!

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
Using DSR for video playback is a bad idea. It can be useful for games, since those can render at the desired resolution. But video has a fixed resolution. It is just a waste of resources. And if you want to go crazy, then Madvr has a supersampling option that is better than DSR.
If you have a powerful GPU with resources to spare, then you can use NGU for chroma scaling. I don't recommend using super res.

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
So, if I were about to choose NGU for chroma scaling, which option below it you like to recommend like anti-alias, sharp, standard or soft? Most people use Anti-alias, High quality for anime.

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
Hi!
So I repaired my laptop. Thanks to it, I can watch any anime yay! But need help.
As a old dog me downloaded KCP-0.6.0.8_[5E590100]
Current set-up is : tier HIGHEST, disabled hardware acceleration, enabled smooth motion - good idea?
I'm very much interested about this You guys wrote to each other but have no clue how to set it and is it all to set to be up to date (is the quality THAT much better?)
Thanks!

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
This forum is for K-Lite. It is a bit rude to ask for help with another codec pack.
KCP contains outdated codecs and an old version of Madvr. It won't give you best quality, certainly not since the highest tier is actually just medium quality with latest Madvr (which has more and better quality scalers).

Thanks for the replay:>
Rude? wouldn't say. Even OP said he/she was using Kawaii codec pack.
So do I and willing now to change for K-Lite pack. Please read with understatement, then comment (no need to waste my time & nerves). Chill session begins:)))
Yes, outdated -fully aware of that. But holly crap. Highest is just medium O.O.O.O.O now I desire to change it even more for the combo You've both mentioned;3
Could You, or anyone else be kind enough to explain me what to download & then how to set everything up? (I assume that, those above posts cover all?)
Cheers~!

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
Simply install K-Lite (standard version) with default settings. Only changes needed in installer is to select Madvr as renderer and adjust hardware acceleration to your preference.
Then use Madvr settings mentioned above. It of course depends on your GPU if it is fast enough to run with those settings.
KCP highest preset uses Jinc for image-upscaling.

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
Hi Admin, recently I just like to watch anime with mpc-hc in combination with SVP 4 pro( I did purchased it) for more smooth video playback(Fake 60fps/144fps etc). So my question now is what setting do I need to change for k-lite codec setting(like hardware acceleration etc.) or even Madvr setting (like do I still need to enable artifact reduction or enable smooth motion) since SVP got their own setting for that alike. Thank you in advance for your reply

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
Enabling smooth motion should not be needed, but it doesn't hurt either. It only gets used when needed.
As for scaling algorithms it depends on how much GPU power you have left. Jinc gives good quality. NGU is even better but requires a powerfull GPU.

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
Dear Salehnx91,
Tell me please. As far I understand, You've still installed K-lite+madvr but implemented to mpc-hc some addon "svp 4 pro"?? or did u remove all and just use pure mpc-hc + this svp 4 pro??
Is this svp 4 pro option u done rly helping with smoother experience? do u see noticeable improvement?
As 2080ti is about to show this NGU gonna ruleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Or will it be useless?

Re: Need help with configuring K-lite codec pack with MadVR setting solely for watching anime only.
SVP creates 'fake' smoothness by doing frame interpolation. The interpolated frames can have artifacts, so if you care about quality, it may not be a wise choice to use.
