Audio desync, clicks and video stop after a few minutes
A few days ago I had a BSOD that reset part of my windows profile. Long story short, I had to do a clean video driver install.
Now videos playing with MPC have their audio slowly running out of sync, about 3 minutes in it becomes really noticeable. At around 6 minutes of playing the audio starts to stutter and 30 seconds after that the video starts acting up as well.
I'm guesstimating this somehow has something to do with the fall update and/or nvidia 388.13 drivers.
Can't roll back nvidia due to other issues. Tried a clean install of the codec back but that had no effect either.
VLC is unaffected.
Any ideas ?

Oh, spoke too soon .. VLC has the glitches in the audio but does not desync .. just takes a bit longer to start.

Does it happen with all videos?
You could try creating a custom refresh rate in NVIDIA control panel. Maybe that will fix the timing issue.

Yea it happens with everything.
I *might* have fixed it however.
Turns out cleaning nvidia drivers together with Win10 constantly trying to install broken creative drivers broke said creative drivers 'a little' ..
This never occurred to me as I had not touched the soundcard drivers... It did this once before the fall update and I reversed it with no issues.
I somewhat purged the creative driver a few times(Windows kept re-installing it even with 'fetch drivers from internet' turned off), then ran the latest drivers from the creative site and the problem seems to have gone away ..
This was all really wonky and I would not have made the connection if I hadn't just gone 'fuck it' and tried clearing the soundcard drivers ..
For reference, card is an SB Z.

Creative are known for having really buggy drivers, especially with newer OS's.

Yeeaaaah .. they sorta stop willingly updating drivers a few months after release. But then for MS to push even more broken drivers is a bit much

Re: Audio desync, clicks and video stop after a few minutes
It is actually not strange that the problem was caused by the audio driver. The audio hardware (+ driver) are responsible for the reference clock that is used during playback.
