4K/2160p CPU Eating playback on HTPC
Having trouble playing a Video file 21gb size its 2160p 10-bit x265 EATS MY CPU
Installed standard k-lite codec pack left just about everything untouched besides using madvr as output and audio using dts and dts-hd. Have it set to dvxa-2 copyback using my R9270X 4gb AMD GPU. Settings recommendations? MPC is still using tons of CPU even though its set to copyback using the Graphics card. which if i have to use any other output that means I cant use madvr if I am correct.. I also set madvr to pass Through hdr and it looks all grainy. All my equipment is capable of HDR and 4k Playback so It must be a setting.
Equipment.
AMD A10 7570K 4.1GHZ CPU
16GB RAM
ASrock extreme+4 Motherboard
Radeaon Sapphire R9270X 4gb
Pioneer SC-LX701 Receiver
Sony XBR900E TV
Atevon hdmi 2.2 Cables.
Thank You!!
All drivers updated
UPDATE: Looks like even though my tv new sony xbr900e says auto HDR it was not picking up the signal from my pc through the receiver so manually switching the tv to HDR10 cleared up the grain. Also using enhanced video custom presenter lowered the cpu usage enough to play smoothly. Any workarounds or do I have to change both of these every time I want to watch a 4k hdr movie? I like using madVR as well.

Re: 4K/2160p CPU Eating playback on HTPC
Your GPU is not capable of hardware acceleration of 10bit HEVC video. Only newer cards can do that. So that is why CPU usage is so high.
HDR might still not work fully automatic because of bugs in the graphics driver and in Windows itself. Microsoft have been messing with HDR a lot in the past months, so hopefully things will stabilize now that the Windows 10 Fall Update has been released.
In the Devices section of MadVR settings, looks at the Indentification page for your screen. That should show if it has been correctly detected as HDR capable.
Press Ctrl+J to bring up the OSD of MadVR. Look at the rendertime. If it is too high, you might need to reduce settings. If the video is 24 fps, then rendertime should stay below 1000/24=41 milliseconds. It is possible to create multiple settings profiles in MadVR for specific input resolutions.

Much appreciated! Which AMD/Radeon Card(s) would you recommend that are available? I am using windows 7 64 haha. Maybe time for a update to 10? I will look into the setting when I get home from work tonight. Again thanks!

Yes, it may be due to Windows 7 that the automatic HDR does not work. But if manually enabling it on the TV gives good colors, then you need to decide if that justifies updating to Window 10.
RX500 series or RX Vega. There might be new cards coming soon that are worth the wait.
