10bit 444 thumnails and playback broken

Thumbnails for 444 profile don't render correctly after updating to K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 13.5.0. Also video plays fine if I play it from the beginning, but if I have mpc-hc remember file position then the video playback also breaks (video gets all distorted). Rolling back down to K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 13.4.0 solves the problem. This is on a Windows 7 64bit OS.

Thanks for the report. I can reproduce it and will get it fixed.

This file is not fully compliant with the H.264 specification. It was created with an older version of x264 encoder. This bug has recently been fixed in x264. It will decode correctly when it is known that is was created by an old x264 version, however that information is sometimes only available when decoding from the beginning.

The reason why it works with older version of the pack is because at that time all versions of x264 had the bug and the decoding was always adjusted to compensate for that bug. That is no longer possible because that would break new files.

Wait what? So this isn't gonna get fixed? I'm using the latest beta 13.5.1 and its still broken. I've tried the standalone Icaros app and it works fine.

If you re-encode the videos, it will be fixed, though that might take a considerable amount of time. As Admin said, it was alraedy fixed, but your files are still affected by the bug. The information is only available at the beginning of the file, Icarus might actually read the beginning of the file no matter from where you try to start the video. Lots of players have different behavior.

You probably tried Icaros 3.0.2 which has an older FFmpeg than 3.0.3.

The decoder has to guess if the video was encoded the old (broken) way or the new correct way. So if no information is available to make that guess, it is not possible to always guess right. In case of thumbnails it would be fixable by also decoding the first frame for this specific type of files. I will talk to the developer of Icaros about it.
