Problems with old games
Hello. I want to report a problem that no one has voiced. If I report in the wrong place, please tell the developers.
When the K-Lite codeck pack is installed (with the "preferred ffdshow" setting also), Windows XP SP3 does not start old games that start with the video. This causes an error "Unhandled Exception c0000005". Sometimes they run, but when you change the movie, the error usually appears again.
For example, this applies to the games "GTA: Vice city", "Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines". If you remove video clips from the game files, then there is no problem. The problem is not related to DEP, as it is stated in many forums. In the version of K-Lite 12.4.5 there was no problem, in version 12.9.5 and higher there is. No settings in the "Configuration" group help.

Re: Problems with old games
Why are you using ffdshow? I recommend using the default video decoder.
You can blacklist the games in ffdshow:
ffdshow video decoder > DirectShow control > don't use ffdshow in
There have not been any changes to ffdshow between 12.4.5 and 12.9.5. Perhaps the game is using LAV Video decoder?
That also has a blacklist, which you can modify in the Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LAV\Video\Blacklist
Are you able to play the videos with MPC-HC?

Re: Problems with old games
By default, the problem remains with the video encoder. I use ffdshow because I'm used to the absence of problems that often appear in LAV. Perhaps this is an outdated habit.
The second council also tried to do it, it does not help.
In games old coders are used: MPEG1 / 2, Intel Indeo 5, etc. The problem is not with codecs, but with access to video during the game.
Yes, with the help of MPC-HC the video works perfectly.

Re: Problems with old games
You should really try LAV again. It should have much less problems than ffdshow. LAV is actively maintained, so if you encounter a problem with it, just report it here, and it will get fixed.
Those games probably work best with the legacy codecs from Windows. Try this:
1) LAV Video decoder settings > Formats > disable MPEG1 and Indeo
(MPEG-2 wasn't added to Windows until version 7, so old games probably don't use it. You can analyze the game videos with MediaInfo)
2) Codec Tweak Tool > ACM/VFW (x86) > Enable Indeo codecs
(The old Indeo codecs are disabled by default on newer version of Windows)
If you give the .exe names of those games, then I can blacklist them by default. Then no changes are needed to LAV settings.

Re: Problems with old games
All councils have carried out. Including installed version 13.3.5. There is a change.
Now old games are started with a different error. And in exceptions, for example, this particular ".exe" has long been a default ...

Re: Problems with old games
You can disable the individual filters using:
Codec Tweak Tool > Codec and Filter Management > DirectShow (x86)
Temporarily disable things to test what filter causes the problem.
Can you also copy MediaInfo details here for the video file that the game uses?
gta-vc.exe is not yet on the default blacklist for LAV.

Re: Problems with old games
1. I tried, but I'm confused: there are a lot of settings, there is ffdshow and there is LAV, and everywhere there are a lot of settings; Attempts do not lead to success.
2. Yes, here's MediaInfo from different games: the first, the second - cause errors, the third - just is not played in the game (skipped). In MPC-HC, everything works flawlessly.
3. This exe is in the exceptions of ffdshow, and you are talking about LAV. Is there only a black list of LAVs in the registry? For me this is not a problem, but I just want to clarify.

Re: Problems with old games
1. Do the games work if you uninstall the codec pack?
2. First two use MPEG1 video, third one uses Cinepak.
3. Yes, LAV blacklist is only in the registry.
Copy this log here. Uncheck the option to hide codecs from Windows. I need to check if those are correctly installed.

Re: Problems with old games
Yes, without codecs the problem persists. Obviously, the problem is not in them. A huge sorry for the trouble, thank you very much for your attention. Apparently, something is connected with the updates of WinXP itself.
