3gp missing from k-lite?
I want to edit my phone's 3gp files in Sony Vegas Pro 13. Vegas opens mp4 files, but not 3gp. I downloaded k-lite. I want to copy the 3gp codec to my Vegas codecs folder, but the k-lite folder does not contain any dll's that include 3gp in the title. Where is te 3gp codec? If 3gp is just a container format, I am wrong to be searching for a 3gp codec?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: 3gp missing from k-lite?
There are different types of codecs that can be installed globally, such as DirectShow, VFW, and Media Foundation. You can't just copy such files, as they are registered in a specific location. They can also only be used by applications that support those specific types of codecs.
Many applications have their own codec plugins for private use, which can't be used by other applications. For example VLC player.
Sony Vegas (now Magix Vegas since v14) uses its own private codecs for importing/exporting (most of) the formats that it supports. The only exception is that it can use (third party) VFW codecs for AVI files. It also uses QuickTime for importing MOV files. I think that it may also be able to import your 3GP files if you install QuickTime.
Vegas does not use DirectShow codecs. The only codecs that Vegas can use from K-Lite are the VFW codecs.
K-Lite does not remove/modify/replace any of the codecs from Vegas. That is a myth. Unfortunately there are many stupid people on the Internet that don't understand the software and just repeat nonsense that they have read somewhere.

Re: 3gp missing from k-lite?
Thanks. I installed Quciktime and without further ado, Vegas was able to edit 3gp files.
