How to configure the pack to open unknown extension files Empty How to configure the pack to open unknown extension files

Hello there!
First time here, i hope you don't mind lending me some help.
I have been using this pack for several years now (almost since the release!) and i have to say it has always been the best for me!
Lately though i noticed that a feature i use to use a lot is not here any more, or i don't know how to enable it.

I used to drag and drop any media file with unknown extension into the player and it would find the right way to play it. Now it can't read simple .ogg files with its extension changed.
How do i configure it for the pack to try to open unknown extension files?

I'll greatly appreciate your help!

Thanks!

I assume you are talking about Media Player Classic (MPC-HC)?
Yes, it should be able to open any file extension. I just tried it here and it still works if a rename an .ogg file.

I assume it does work if you rename back to .ogg? In that case, it could be some other codec that is interfering. Could you post this log?
Codec Tweak Tool > Generate Log

A quick fix would be:
MPC-HC options > Internal Filters > Source Filters > enable Ogg
(but it normally should already work with default settings)

Thank you for your help,
Here is the log:
https://pastebin.com/0SveMHga

Yes i was referring to MPC-HC (it is the default for me xD), I enabled Ogg in the internal filters but the file cannot be opened by drag and drop without changing the extension first to .ogg.
Here is the file if it helps:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/vqd078
That is whats inside a .upk package after decompressing it, it used by the unreal gaming engine. That particular file has no copyright, it was made for a mod.
Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for the file. It is not detected correctly as Ogg without the file extension as a hint. I will try to get that fixed.

I noticed in your log that you are using VSFilter for subtitles. If that isn't intentional, then I would suggest using the internal subtitle renderer of MPC-HC, as that should give better quality.

This specific file is not a standard valid Ogg file. I contains some custom data at the beginning. That is why the automatic detection didn't work. It is unlikely that this will improve. The only reason why decoding works after renaming is because the decoder is able to ignore that extra data.

But in general, valid files should play regardless of their extension.
