Pointless Idea
Rather pointless idea, but it does create a more subtle and smooth environment as Spotify has also taken on this feature or was/has been released with it. Regardless...
Cross-fading. So one songs end would descent in volume and the next song in line would slowly climb up over the top. This feature would remove all the extremely ABRUPT playlist song changes.
Because as of right now every time my MPC goes through its playlist, I hear an abrupt CLICK because the song is switching, and that shouldn't be something you'd wanna have happening regardless if its the songs themselves or the Player. 21st century babyyyy.

Re: Pointless Idea
MPC uses DirectShow for playback, which means that each file has its own instance of decoder and audio renderer. This is a technical roadblock that makes it difficult to implement functionality such as gapless playback and crossfading. The developers are also not interested in re-inventing the wheel. For that reason it is pretty safe to say that the chance of that functionality in MPC is practically zero. The player was designed for video playback. It only offer basic audio playback. For more advanced features you need to use a specialized audio player, such as Winamp or Foobar.
Re: Pointless Idea
The playlist requires no additional requirements to function. Couldnt you advance that abit more? Could pre-initiate those decoders and renders, in conjunction with the song in queue, at set intervals via that, if it wasnt so minimalist.
You would just need to redirect the newly initiated audio to the current MPC to keep it all tied in. This could also be useful for video use, rather than Click-Playing... All users, the same, could just create there own playlists of the specified categories they want, so it serves to not just benefit one minority. I have less of an ansy behavior or care for the little things than assuming, the main man for this product. Yet still cant imagine, taking preference over a snappy and at sometimes glitchy switch between songs/movies, over a smooth transition. Entitlements to design, shouldn't propagate laziness out of selfish view. Time moves forward, so should the product.

Re: Pointless Idea
The developers work on this player for free in their spare time. They generally only work on new features they are interested in personally. They don't have time to work on the many feature requests that are submitted. The player is open source, so any new developer can join and contribute.
There are specialized audio players that offer the functionality you seek. They are better for audio playback than MPC-HC and always will be better. There is no reason to not use them.

Re: Pointless Idea
MPC-HC is the best imo. It offers an x-amount of codecs that arent specific, to few or less types of video/audio, and also uses less RAM, VRAM, CPU, and HDD space than anything else. Its minimalism is what captures me. All the new fancy stuff is unnecessary and detrimental to whatever possible manageable memory your computer uses and/or needs... Spotify is like '86,370mb' usage. MPC loves to be less than 20-. Its great.
But open source is probably something I should've looked out for. That actually kind of helps me understand why it, may/may not be updated frequently as those personally driven to developing this don't even make profit from it also. Never know though, probably could make more money at companies like i,e. Spotify or Apple and bring your valuable knowledge along the way to save the day *jokes* haha

Re: Pointless Idea
Winamp is a great player for audio. It is also small and efficient like MPC-HC. Use a custom install and disable most of the extras. It has a great playlist, gapless playback, crossfading, equalizer, etc.
