WMP stopped working after Windows 10 update
Today my main computer running Windows 10 installed this month's Windows updates (KB890830 - KB4013418 - KB4013429 - KB4014329). And when I tried to open Windows Media Player after the update, I got a "Program has stopped working" message. I am running the latest K-lite codec pack (13.0.0) on that computer and everything was working fine just before the update.
Then my secondary computer which is also running Windows 10 got the same updates. When I checked to see if WMP also had problems on that computer too after the update, I saw that WMP was working fine. EXCEPT that the K-Lite version I was using on that secondary computer was 9.8.0. So suspecting that the K-Lite version was the culprit, I updated that secondary computer with the latest 13.0.0 version. And WMP stopped working on that computer too.
It seems that version 13.0.0 (and the preceding one 12.9.0) are incompatible with the most recent windows 10 updates (March 2017).
Is there something I could do (apart from switching to MPC as my default player) ?

Re: WMP stopped working after Windows 10 update
The problem is completely unrelated to the codec pack.
The problem is caused by the file comppkgsup.dll in update KB4013429. Microsoft broke something.

Mine stopped too.
These were the updates:
KB890830
KB4014329
KB4013418
KB4013429
KB4013867
KB3178682
KB3178677
KB3127945
And this was the message I got after opening the Media Player:
An error has ocurred. MPC-HC will close now.
Exception:
ACCESS VIOLATION
Crashing module:
C:\Windows\System32\CompPkgSup.DLL
Offset: 0x4419349D, Codebase: 0x84960000
The thread 2684 tried to read memory at address 0x00000000
Please report this problem if the crash is reproduceable. The crashing module
indicates the component in which the error occurred.
I also updated to version 13.0.0 and it still doesn't work.
Hopefully there is a solution to this problem, as I hadn't my system restore activated, so I can't undo my updates.

Re: WMP stopped working after Windows 10 update
For MPC-HC try this:
options > external filters > add "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video decoder" and set it as blocked

Uninstalling a recent update is possible through:
Settings app > Update History > Uninstall updates
Settings app > Update History > Uninstall updates
