Subtitles don't work. MPC-HC crashes.
On Win10 my brother has a problem. The subtitles doesn't show up at all when he tries to enable them by pressing W button on keyboard the MPC-HC crashes with this error. I fixed this before with the whole codec pack reinstall and it worked for a while. Also the OSD doesn't work either.
Here are screenshots of error message:

Is the OSD enabled in the options?
Menu > Play > Filters
Is "Enhanced Video Renderer (Custom Presenter)" being used as video renderer?

Re: Subtitles don't work. MPC-HC crashes.
OSD is enabled in the settings, it's just doesn't work just like subtitles.
Edit1: I fixed the problem. The laptop in question has two graphic cards: Intel and Radeon. When on battery the power settings are being set for "optimized power saving" meaning it uses only or mostly Intel. When the power cord was connected the setting was set to "max performance" meaning only Radeon is available, Intel is "hidden" from apps.
On battery everything worked fine as long as MPC-HC was using Intel but when connected to power supply MPC-HC was crashing because it used Radeon and somehow it couldn't handle it.
Any thoughts on that?

Which version of the Radeon driver is currently installed? You could try updating it with latest driver from www.amd.com
I think that in the Radeon settings you should also be able to configure somewhere which GPU should be used by specific applications. You could select Intel there for MPC-HC.

Here's the thing. When "Maximum Performance" mode is selected then Intel is not accessible at all. I changed it to "optimized performance" and now it's working correctly. Intel is being used to render the video.

You should be able to configure it per application. There is a screenshot on this page:

Re: Subtitles don't work. MPC-HC crashes.
I know but it's locked to Intel only even though Intel is not available on this machine with maximum performance power settings. The newest drivers are installed.
The solution is to change the settings for power plugged in to optimized performance.

Are you using the latest Radeon driver? They may have already fixed the bug that causes your problems when the AMD GPU is used.
Re: Subtitles don't work. MPC-HC crashes.
I'm not sure if it is a bug. I think this might be an intended behavior.
Still I don't know why MPC-HC is crashing when using Radeon instead of Intel.

Re: Subtitles don't work. MPC-HC crashes.
It is certainly not intended. There are lots of people with switchable graphics that are using MPC-HC without problems.
Have you actually tried a different driver yet?
